| Bell tech suggesting switching from ADSL to ADSL2+ Modem
I'm with AEI and had issues with them last week. When the Bell technician came, he fixed the line and ran a signal analysis tool on it and told me that he saw some signal drop with my Speedstream 5290 that I've had for years.
Stated service is 5MBPS for 29.99 per month.
Although I am able to reach around 500kb/sec, the technician suggested I upgraded to a ADSL2+ compatible modem for even better speeds/reliability on the line.
Question...is he full of it or does switching to a ADSL2 modem WILL increase performance even though I am NOT on a ADSL2+ profile? I did see the drops in the signal on his laptop with my own eyes... |

| You don't need to upgrade to an ADSL2+ compatible modem in order to stabilize the line.
However, if the 5290 is anything like the 5200, it's a piece of dog crap and there are better modems out there today that do a better job at stabilizing marginal lines. |

| you need to raise big hell with your provider. and deadpool should be able to provide internal follow up with bell. the ticket numbers make a paper trail so to speak.
since the caip filing the work by bell techs has been shoddy or more errors involved than prior to the caip filing. the isps need to start look at why we are sending the same issue back to bell on two or three escalations.... |

As I understand it... ADSL2+ works on longer loops, better.
This may or may not help crappy line quality... however, if it can maintain a more stable connection on your line, then perhaps thats the 'performance' gian you need. |

Ehhhh Adsl2 modem will not increase performance on a Adsl1 line card BUT if your signal is not good. Its worth the upgrade to a speedtouch 516 or a 2wire.
Adsl2+ compatible and are amazing on marginal lines. |

| i havent seen any proof that adsl2 offers a better connection a longer distance. the errors aour out of this world and at primus we jsut change the connection over to dmt and that usually fixes the distance issue related to speeds.
you may have other info but im juts going by what i see firsthand. adsl2 is great if your close to the co. otherwise it has pretty much proven to be a waste of an offering
how many people on here are getting primus 7 megs, how many people in the bell forums are on the 16 or 12 meg whatever it is they are offering. truth it that standard just doesn t seem to have worked out as a viable option |
