All of which got worse when they fubared the ground. Its like the Electrical guy From Oncor the customer is responsible for the ground. And said all mine were fine including the one Att Fubared.

Now the radius Server is Capping me down to less than 400 down out of 6016
Which was just reset on 5-1-2008@ around11:36AM
I used to just be able to leave the phone off hook for an hour. which i wouldnt have to do if they would just fix the line. Plus id get up to a 5 db gain on the SNR
All this sounds like a high open to me probally on the Ring Side.

Here is really good info on what a good ground is.

Go figure i was on the phone and heard some clicking and now my 2wire logs have been cleared out. edit: after further inspection it appears that it was rebooted.

minumum of a 5 foot rod that is 1/2 inch in diamater in wet soil conditions.

800.40 b 3 minumum of 6awg for ground wire. the grounding conductor shall be run to the grounding electrode in as straight a line as practical.
you also want the least resistance.

(5) Effective Ground-Fault Current Path. Electrical
equipment and wiring and other electrically conductive material
likely to become energized shall be installed in a
manner that creates a permanent, low-impedance circuit
facilitating the operation of the overcurrent device or
ground detector for high-impedance grounded systems. It
shall be capable of safely carrying the maximum groundfault
current likely to be imposed on it from any point on
the wiring system where a ground fault may occur to the
electrical supply source. The earth shall not be considered
as an effective ground-fault current path.

Ground-Fault Current Path. An electrically conductive
path from the point of a ground fault on a wiring system
through normally non–current-carrying conductors, equipment,
or the earth to the electrical supply source.
FPN: Examples of ground-fault current paths could consist
of any combination of equipment grounding conductors,
metallic raceways, metallic cable sheaths, electrical
equipment, and any other electrically conductive material
such as metal water and gas piping, steel framing members,
stucco mesh, metal ducting, reinforcing steel, shields of
communications cables, and the earth itself.

(3) Bonding of Electrically Conductive Materials and
Other Equipment. Electrically conductive materials that
are likely to become energized shall be connected together
and to the supply system grounded equipment in a manner
that creates a permanent, low-impedance path for groundfault
current that is capable of carrying the maximum fault
current likely to be imposed on it.

250.8 Connection of Grounding and Bonding Equipment
[ROP 5–84].
(A) Permitted Methods. Grounding conductors and bonding
jumpers shall be connected by one of the following
means:
(1) Listed pressure connectors
(2) Terminal bars
(3) Pressure connectors listed as grounding and bonding
equipment
(4) Exothermic welding process
(5) Machine screw-type fasteners that engage not less than
two threads or are secured with a nut
(6) Thread-forming machine screws that engage not less
than two threads in the enclosure
(7) Connections that are part of a listed assembly
(8) Other listed means [ROP 5–84]

250.10 Protection of Ground Clamps and Fittings.
Ground clamps or other fittings shall be approved for general
use without protection or shall be protected from
physical damage as indicated in (1) or (2) as follows:
(1) In installations where they are not likely to be damaged
(2) Where enclosed in metal, wood, or equivalent protective
covering

250.56 Resistance of Rod, Pipe, and Plate Electrodes. A
single electrode consisting of a rod, pipe, or plate that does
not have a resistance to ground of 25 ohms or less shall be
augmented by one additional electrode of any of the types
specified by 250.52(A)(2) through (A)(7). Where multiple
rod, pipe, or plate electrodes are installed to meet the requirements
of this section, they shall not be less than 1.8 m
(6 ft) apart.
FPN: The paralleling efficiency of rods longer than 2.5 m
(8 ft) is improved by spacing greater than 1.8 m (6 ft).

(4) Clearance Supply service drops of 0–750 volts running
above and parallel to communications service drops
shall have a minimum separation of 300 mm (12 in.) at any
point in the span, including the point of and at their attachment
to the building, provided the nongrounded conductors
are insulated and that a clearance of not less than 1.0 m
(40 in.) is maintained between the two services at the pole.

Avoid kinking the wire and do not run it parallel to or strapped to metallic pipes or other wiring. A good way to accomplish this is to install the protection as close as possible to the NID. This serves two purposes: it keeps the ground wire as short as possible and moves the protection as far as possible from the equipment being protected. Note: if the protected equipment is in another building or a considerable distance from this protector, an additional protector may be required at the protected equipment to prevent an induced surge in the IW from damaging the protected equipment.

If the ground wire must be bent, do so by using a large radius bend.

Rule one Power is lazy it will seek out the path of least resistance to where it wishes to travel and despite popular belief that path may not always be the shortest path to that goal.

Rule two Power brings many friends once the first path becomes clogged additional paths in order of increasing resistance will be discovered and utilized.

Rule three if you fail to provide an alternate adequate path for Power to travel over don't blame Power if it takes a shortcut through a piece of your equipment destroying it in the process.

Rule three is where I have the right to change the ground since the Telco does not hook it to a adaquete ground on older homes.

I have a theory on rule #2 on a incedent that happen back in 2004 when I had 15 volt voltage spikes in my nid box coming from the pole. And since there was not adaquete grounding it took the path with least resistance and hit the electricle ground since the telco grounded to that metallic pipe which then traveled some more down the path of least resistance toward the grounding block in the electrical panel then it continued down the path of least resistance and took off down a ground wire back though the home which then hit a device at the end of the loop and fryed that device. Some of the spike also took a path down some of the quad phone wire.

I have always said a surge/voltage spike will not discriminate between wires.

So we have
1.Phones 2.dsl modems and 3.computers that can be damaged with the ground hooked up to the metallic pipe which above I have called galvanized. And to add insult right off the bat the way it is now the ground will become clogged and then take the least path of resistance and follow the phone wire into the home and if that wasn't bad enough it will follow in to the other nid box and come in that way as well.

The current ground wire is not very straight and has small radius curves.

83 capacity. hard time leaving upstream.

Charter was just here for tv issues and the whole time they was up at the tap on the pole my phone was going click click click click click.................
