| Upload rediculous.......
To download with 10 Mbps, you need about 3% of that bandwidth for packet requests on the return channel. In other words, downloading with 10 Mbps means there is an upstream of 300 to 400 kbps.
512 BARELY can cover that, let alone doing some uploading and downloading at the same time, because it is just not gonna happen, you'll get half the speed in downloads if you take too much upload away fro packet requests etc.

If you configure your stack optimally you could get as low as 1 TCP ACK per 512-1024KB, which means your upstream burden is significantly lower. |

| actually Road Runner no longer offers Turbo, Premium, or Extreme (20mbps) anymore. I called up recently to upgrade, and was told they no longer off it.
I'm surprised they call that a 'upgrade' |

| Well I am in NYC and I have Extreme (20/1), Premium doesn't exist anymore, the one below Extreme is Turbo (15/768), standard is 10/512.
A cable tech told me during a visit the higher plans are going to be disconnected due to congestion, although he wasn't 100% sure.
I guess they might be refusing the higher tiers on congested nodes, actually, all mentions of Turbo disappeared from the TWC NYC website (Extreme was never mentioned). Damn, TWC gave speed boosts and now had to cancel higher tiers b/c of overloaded nodes. I guess all DOCSIS 3 will do is enable 15/768 Turbo again lol. |
