wired and wireless - puzzle

I get about 5xxxx kb/s, when using the Internet when no other computers are on, on behind the same router. But I only got going 4xx-1xxx kb/s when other users on the wireless network.

Please, can you explain why?

Thanks

There could be a few answers to this, however, since I don't know your network I can only speculate.

1. How many users are on the wireless network at once? Depending on how many, each one takes a slice of wireless bandwidth. If you are using standard rubber duck antennas, that will mean less to go around in terms of wireless performance.

2. What are these users doing? Downloading and uploading? If others are using your connection, maybe even using torrents and such, that would cause your performance to struggle.

3. Lastly, how are you measuring this performance? Using online speed tests? Have you tried file transfers to other computers in your environment? Are the transfers fast but the internet is slow?

Thanks!

1. 2 laptops using wireless, but my computer is wired. Type of router: Belkin N Wireless Router (F5D8233-4V3)

2. I am living with a tenant which is the one who i think is causing the slow down on my computer, Im not sure what his really doing with his laptop online

3. I use speed test to check my kb/s, browsing online takes so long, it takes about a minute to load google.com when his connected, (this only happens when he gets on)
