| Stupid Help Desk Call of the Week
Problem reported by user: Good Afternoon, I had a folder set up titled "Carriers" that is no longer on my Outlook. Can you locate??
Resolution: It didnt really disappear... apparently she had it selected, and then put a stack of folders down on her desk, which hit the corner of her keyboard and renamed it ````````` -- You're so vain... I bet you think this post is about you. |

| From my experience, that isn't all that uncommon an occurrence among users. It's too easy for them to activate the "inline name edit" (for lack of better term) of a folder with a errant mouse click. I've long felt that rename feature for a folder should be done with a key stroke plus mouse click combination to prevent accidental renaming. -- Through My Eyes |

I work for a small railroad and I think I am required to swear when walking them through stuff.
"Now double click on the fucking icon"
I came here from a large fortune 500 company that was overly PC so it was a night and day change for me. |

| reply to The Dv8or I think the ultimate is "I accidentally deleted yada-yada folder" or "I accidentally deleted yada-yada document" "Can you recover it?".
How the hell do you accidentally delete an item. In Windows, you always get a confirmation if you want really want to delete said item. |

| I can understand this one a little better if you have different saved versions of a document, or if you're deleting a series of items and one gets caught in the mix. This happens infrequently enough in my company where I can pretty much understand when it happens, although it seems to be predominantly the same person who puts in most of the calls for restoring. -- You're so vain... | I think my company is full of people who don't understand that we have backups, what a backup is- and that their data can be recovered. Therefore, most of those calls probably never exist because they cut their losses--- no matter how much end-user training is done- they don't seem to want to be bothered with putting in trouble tickets- it's great until they try to fix things themselves.
I need more staff to do more IRL work to get them comfortable with our equipment and software- but alas, we're understaffed. |

We have a little gremlin that apparently goes in a drags a folder full of memos into another folder now and then. Of course it was none of the users here.....
no reason to drag and drop a folder anywhere...much less someone else's folder...not sure how you do that on accident. |

User: "I've been waiting for you to come by! I need help! All my things are small!"
Me: (thinking-"If you needed help, why didn't you put a request into the f*cking helpdesk?!")
"What - things - are small?"
User: "All my things, when I have to work on them, are small! I have to drag around my mouse in them!"
After a look-see, the complaint was actually that the file window had been resized in MS Word at some point, so whenever she opened a file, the window was "small".
I showed her how to maximize, minimize and resize a window. Her reaction was one of wonder and awe. This person has been using MS Word for over eight years that I am aware of.
