[XP] Need new NIC

Hi all,

looking to see opinions on getting a new NIC. my Netgear is starting to cause crashes, so...(tears welling) must be replaced. I've had this one for quite a few years and has always been good to me. I have a gigE network top to bottom. am looking for a GigE card that has the least amount of impact on my system. I am a participant in the Folding@home program and like my free cycles going there not too concerned about price, just performance,

thanks everyone and have a good day!

The Intel cards are the best for performance.

Intel PRO/1000 PCI or PCI-E cards are the best money can buy.

Re: [XP] Need new NIC

any suggestion on which to choose, PCI or PCI Express?

there is a minimal difference in cost. I do a bit of gaming, but usually not online. and nothing really high end either, only have an EVGA 8800GTS 512mb

Intel PWLA8391GT - PCI option

Intel EXPI9300PT - PCI Express option

secondary thought. has anyone used the PCI-Ex on a 1x or 4x slot. if so, how did it? any issues, etc to know of?

thanks for everyones help!

PCI-E if you have a free slot for it.

I would go with PCI-E, even 1X is faster than regular PCI.
