To setup printer on Vista - make sure the printer status is ready on the print server. There are 2 Steps
1st Step: Adding an LPD printer under Windows Vista : Add print services for Vista 1. Control Panel, Programs and Features, Turn Windows features On or Off 2. New Window: Check Print Services, expand this by selecting "+" 3. Check LPR Port Monitor
2nd Step: Add the printer to the machine 1. Add Printer: select "Printers and Faxes" from Start Menu 2. Double-click Add Printer 3. Click Next 4. Check "Local Printer attached to this computer" and uncheck "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer" 5. Click Next 6. Select Create a new port: and choose "LPR Port" from pull down menu 7. The Add LPR compatible printer window appears Name or address of server providing lpd: (the IP Address of the Router ie: 192.168.1.20) Name of printer or print queue on that server: name_of_printer (ie - envgrad or civps5) ( Special for 3COM 3c510 using SMC 7004 Firmware use lp for the queue name ) -- Very Important 8. The Print driver Window appears next install proper print driver on your computer (look at printer for printer model) (ie - envgrad printer driver is "HP Laserjet 5000 Series PCL6" for pcl 6 driver) 9. Choose a name for you printer (typically use the same name_of_printer as above to avoid confusion) Any Name is OK select default printer if you choose 10. Select "Do not share this printer" 11. Print test page if desired (if you print test page go check to make sure it prints properly) 12. Finish |
