| Which Quad would you buy a 9300 45nm or 6600 65nm ?
With the prices on Intel's Quads dropping and performance still running close. Which would you choose?
You can purchase a Quad 6600 G0 for $199 or a Quad 9300 for $249. What choices would you make for a Quad system? -- ****aka The WIZARD **** A Founding member Seti BBR Team Starfire**** |

Nice suggestion and concept but for the general user and myself a bit over the top for me.
Thanks for the expanded view. -- ****aka The WIZARD **** A Founding member Seti BBR Team Starfire**** |

For best 45nm OC, it needs X38/X48 (1600 FSB rated) mobos. |

The X38/X48 motherboards are few and at a premium price and almost all available boards take DDR3 Ram which is also at the higher price range. -- ****aka The WIZARD **** A Founding member Seti BBR Team Starfire**** |

Could it be the Intel complier options for the 4.1 instructions are not matured enough or is it the 38 chip set compared to the 48 for proper usage of the chip/CPU features? The X48 chip set is supposed to have a broader channel for memory usage for the DDR3 memory. -- ****aka The WIZARD **** A Founding member Seti BBR Team Starfire**** |

| reply to HFB1217 The question becomes, do you plan to overclock. A 6600 has a higher multiplier, due to the lower FSB. That means a higher clock speed per FSB Mhz bump. Sure you can overclock the 45s, but you are already starting at a pretty high FSB, with a lower multiplier, requiring more expensive ram to get it up high enough to result in a decent clock speed.
Then again if you don't overclock, there is no reason not to get one. The electricity and heat savings are definitely worth the $50 price difference. -- Intel Quad Core QX6700 @3500Mhz/Asus P5N32-E SLI/4x 1024Mb Corsair/Seagate 750.10/PNY 7800GTs SLI/Silverstone 850W/Custom water cooler |

| reply to HFB1217 Some info for thought and whatever!
I now have only 3 systems running instead of six. I have turned off my 3 remaining PentDs. But with 2 Quads and One Conroe Core 2 all of which are 6600 2.4 gig CPUs running at an over clock of 3.5x gig and the new optimizer AK v8 they are crunching and exceeding the output of when I had all 6 PentDs running with an OC to 4.2gig. Or even when I was running a combo of 4 D's and a Quad with a Core2. -- ****aka The WIZARD **** A Founding member Seti BBR Team Starfire**** |
