I've been experiencing the same problem. Last night, I was able to talk to someone at Charter's "Level 2" support. She informed me that they are aware of the problem. Blamed it on a DNS issue & said it should be fixed in a couple of days. However, my son, who lives about 10 miles away can connect to »ftp://webpages.charter.net fine. Go figure.

Hmm?
Just tested using gftp in Linux and it works fine also.

Almost didn't see your IM!

I had this problem for more than a week. I noticed that my pda will log on correctly and my brother's computer in the living room will log on as it is connected to verizon. I can log onto verizon's ftp but not this one.

I connected it directly and it worked. Something with it not working with my router but I have no clue on which port to open.

Have had the same problem trying to open »ftp://webpages.charter.net. It worked fine a week ago but not now. Spoke with techie at charter but we got nowhere even though he was able to open it at his end. My next step is to by pass my router. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I enabled the log in my router and noticed:

Source IP Protocol Destination Port number Rule
10.223.32.1 UDP bootpc Dropped
10.223.32.1 UDP bootpc Dropped
10.223.32.1 UDP bootpc Dropped

I just spent 30 minutes doing the following without help.
first unplugged everything for 5 minutes (modem and router).
did a ipconfig/flushdns
started up modem and computer only - no router. no dice
restarted all and went back to normal. no dice

Are you somehow editing/working on your site through that link you posted, »ftp://webpages.charter.net/? First time I've ever used/seen that! Weird!!

Using Windows Ipswitch or Linux gftp, I'm not having any issues what so ever.

yes that is link. when you log in once then it buries your account and password in it.
Its just one of several links i have in My Network Places. Double click it and your in.
I found the link in My Charter Account, just click on text for My Web Space

It seems that most ftps use a specific port but for some reason charter nows just sends without specifying a port which causes the router to block it even with no firewall available.

I doesn't know where to send it to.

That is all speculation because it works great without my router.

norton, enable logging in your router and I can guarantee that your router is dropping it. It seems that charter doesn't want us to use routers.

FWIW again,
I did try that link you provided and it works for me also even with a router and software firewall, albeit, looks rather weird!

my normal link to add content to site is thru a "my network connection". that has failed since last monday.

I can get to other ftp sites ok its just charter. I have tried several times with and without router and no luck. Going to be tough to update and use charter website...

So, it looks like it's time to use an ftp client, if you wish to get anything done!

Here's a great freebie,
