high packet loss - Chicago area

looked at the DSL modem -
no errors on the DSL, ATM, or Ethernet status pages.

depending upon which website I try to connect, along with which DNS server I Ping, the packet loss is very high....

This is a localized problem with the Chicago area and the DSLAM router complex in Elmhurst..

There is a recorded network status message on the 1-877 number, after walking thru the voice prompts about "connection problems".

DNS does not use ICMP. Pinging a DNS server may be counterproductive. Instead, try this nifty little utility:
