Re: [Installer] Different LNB's on TRIA

Sorry I confused you. I actually meant signal path. With the feedhorn removed I could not see any obstruction and the o-ring was in place.

Yes, I replaced the hole thing, not just the LNB.

Greg, you say that the Chinese LNB is less sensitiv. Does this mean there is nothing really wrong with it, it just gives me a lower signal and the system will work the same way as with the other LNB?

Well, that's a loaded question. If you search the internet for Ku-band LNBs, you'll find a wide variance in receive sensitivity. More sensitive = more expensive. But it makes no sense why Hughes provide mismatched LNBs for the same TRIA. Unless one of those TRIAs is not from Hughes. If they're both Hughes stock, then the Chinese one would seem to be the less sensitive of the two - a probable factory defect. Alternatively - if 88 seems a comparatively high RSL, the Taiwanese LNB might be OVER-sensitive.

Given the info provided, that's the best I can do - sorry.

Both assemblies are from Hughes and both where new out of the box.
As we often have to use Horizons1 up here because of the higher elevation, we use this bird often and the signal is usually between 85 and 92 and exactly this confused me, why I should get only 60 all of a sudden. My own dish is on Hor1 as well.
The Chinese TRIA is already back in the box and ready to be returned.
Thanks____Raminto

·HughesNet Satellit..

FWIW - Last fall I noticed about a 5-6 point lower reading in SQF on HOR1 1270 with a .74 reflector. This was at a site in Idaho where the only thing I changed was the TRIA. Just like in your pictures, the FRU TRIA had the smaller sized, made in China LNB. The one I replaced had the larger sized made in Taiwan LNB.
