I added another TV in my residence and the splitter that the FIOS technician installed,(for six connections) is full. What kind of splitter should I purchase and where should I buy it? Should I let Verizon send me one? |

What kind of splitter should I purchase and where should I buy it? Should I let Verizon send me one? Get a Splitter rated to work above 1Ghz. Try to find one that will be used on all outputs, but Terminate any open ends with a 75 ohm terminator "cap' if you end up with an extra unused output. |

| reply to msanta I saw this while looking for splitters and was wondering if it's ok for FIOS? I believe if you don't use all the connections you should put a terminator cap(75omhs) |

| Right church, wrong pew. Buy something that says 5-1000, just not Monster. You'll save money and show that you know better than to buy their crap. Edit: BTW, I'm not sure there are indoor/outdoor splitters. There are products to make the coax connection 'weather tight', like plastic collars and double sided black tape that you can wrap around the connection. |

| reply to msanta I used 2-way and 4-way splitters I bought here
»www.monoprice.com/products/produ···format=2
and everything worked fine with internet and TV.
For the 4-way splitter, I used only 2 outputs. The other 2 were left open. I'm not sure if I need to put 75-ohm terminator caps on the unused outputs. But so far, I didn't notice any problem.

This is not just for FiOS TV, but for any coax network.... |

| In RF theory, if the impedance of the load (splitter output - open circuit) doesn't match the impedance of the transmission line (resistance of the coax = 75 Ohms), the RF signal will reflect off the output of the splitter and add in a bad way to mess up your signals to the STB. Usually, you don't notice it. Except for maybe a few channels that don't look quite right.
The loads (terminations) on the splitter will provide the matching 75 Ohms that will absorb the "reflections" of the RF signals in your coax. This is a good thing.
I probably over-simplified, but the basic concept is that you need something like this for anything RF. It's also why you have those little black boxes on antennas to go between your coax and twin-lead. They are transformers (not just adapters) which go between 75 Ohm coax and 300 Ohm twin lead. The transformer "smooths out" those RF reflected signals to your TV. Without it, it would be a lot worse.
You can get them at Radio Shack. Price is a bit extravagant, but this is the concept: »www.radioshack.com/product/index···e=family |

| reply to msanta Believe me, I wasn't buying a Monster splitter at $25 when I can get something else betterr for less than half the price. The image happened to be the first image that came up when I searched for 8 way splitters.Probably RadioShack has them. I wanted to know the exact splitter I needed. |

| you shouldn't be terminating any unused ports, because unused ports after that many splits means you could be getting dangerously close to not having enough signal to all of your outlets.
what you should do is buy a decent 5-900 Mhz TWO-WAY splitter. then head to your six way and double up one of the ports, which will free up a port for your 7th outlet.
the outlets you should be splitting are the router and the tv that is physically the closest (least amount of cable). |
