LLigetfa : It depends on how the network is setup. 1492 is only common if you are doing PPPoE, 1500 otherwise. You should run MTU of 1500 where there is PPPoE packets tunneling through. 1492 only if the CPE is using PPPoE to your LNS. If the client router is doing the PPPoE, then the CPE should be 1500 and the client router should be 1492.

PMTUD usually works but needs ICMP and some overzealous admins will disable it.
inova : This one has me beat guys, your help would be very much appreciated.

This client has 4 machines behind a Delib 2300 in wisp mode. All is working fine but this is a very old install with Tupperware on an external homemade antenna. As an upgrade we swapped the radio for a nice new poe Delib 2112. At the same time I wiped the hard drive on machine #1 and reinstalled XP(annual procedure) and it worked fine.

I checked the remaining machines for connectivity and they would not pass traffic. They all had the right ipconfig numbers numbers and "ping www.google.ca" answered successfully on all machines. None could bring up a web page.

I took machine #2 (xpsp2) home and it fired up and passed traffic fine. WTF. I wiped it and reinstalled xp and returned it and it worked fine.

Machine #3 is a HP media center PC with its own recovery partition. I ran the recovery and no go. I took it home to the shop and it passed traffic fine.!!?? I wiped the hard drive and reinstalled XP, returned it and it now works fine.

Machine #4 is a HP laptop with Vista. It connects wirelessly through a CB3. It behaves the same as the others except it will pass traffic when connected via wired network. I took the laptop and cb3 home to the shop and sure enough the wireless side functions fine.

I have another client with the same problem. Surely there has to be a simpler solution than wiping and reinstalling.
Any thoughts?
