Each PC connected to the router has an IP address and other settings. There are two ways to do this: Static (you set the parameters) or DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) (where the router assigns the IP and the other parameters).
Unless you like fool to with this stuff, it is best to let the router do it.
Now PPPoE ... DSL comes in two flavors: PPPoE and PPPoA. The main difference is that PPPoE uses 1492 for the MTU (in 99.99% of the time in the USA). PPPoA use 1500 for the MTU.
AFAIK, VZ DSL uses PPPoE. The router can do this for you and you do not have to setup anything. In the router, there is a setting for it. You have to enter a user name and password. Is this how your router is setup? -- "You can observe a lot by watching". Yogi Berra |
