Check the power settings for the wireless perhaps? Turn off "Allow windows to turn off this device to conserve power"? I know some USB devices will behave this way, so it's worth a look. (Possible the SP changed it)

 Thanks. The wireless adapter power settings were CAM (constantly awake mode). There is also an enable/disable setting for CAM under AC power. It was disabled so I enabled it.

That disconnected and reconnected and unfortunately put the connection back into an endless on/off loop again. Before that, it had been stable for a while after a reboot.
