Thanks. The wireless adapter power settings were CAM (constantly awake mode). There is also an enable/disable setting for CAM under AC power. It was disabled so I enabled it.
That disconnected and reconnected and unfortunately put the connection back into an endless on/off loop again. Before that, it had been stable for a while after a reboot.
