Re: [MCE] XP SP3 Issues

It is not a Microsoft issue to fix.
The problem is that for a period of time the OEM manufacturer of your computer used the identical installation image of XP on both Intel and AMD computers.

Microsoft will not fix this for you.
If you need an easier way to do this repair, please advise. But quite honestly you need only type one short command sequence in a command session, and use Device Manager to check on the existence and startup state of a single driver. Total estimated time start to finish: two minutes.

If the repair is not made, you will not be able to install Service Pack 3. Since you used System Restore to revert your computer, you unfortunatly have to complete the SP3 installation. Your computer is, quite frankly, a mess.

Like I said, I am sorry if you took this as a personal thing, but I really do not mean to be short with you. I am just frustrated and worried that I will mess my machine up even more than it already is. I don't have the money to buy a new computer if this one goes down. I will probably try this later when I am not so frustrated.

I really, really, REALLY do appreciate your help. I swear Thank you so much for sticking with me on this and working with me. I just need a few to get my nerves down. LOL...

Duchess44,

I did not take it personally. Nor felt you were trying to shoot the messenger. If you need a more automated approach to making the changes:

1. We fortunately installed earlier Recovery Console. Boot into Recovery Console. Use "Administrator" as the username.

At the command prompt that will appear on a fairly empty screen, type carefully:

disable ftsata2
exit

2. Boot into Safe Mode.

Using your mouse, left click once below where it says: "Copy to clipboard":

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\intelppm]
"Start"=dword:00000004

Open a new Notepad document. (Do not use a Word Processor or WordPad). Click "Format" and be certain that Word Wrap is not enabled.
Right-click | Paste the Code box contents from above into Notepad. Click File, Save as..., and enter (including quotation marks) as the filename: "RegistryFix.REG". Exit Notepad.

Double click your new file and agree to the registry merge when asked. You can then delete this new file.

Reboot to Normal mode.

Great. Ty very much for that. Now I do this, then do the install of SP3 and follow the instructions from WU from there, correct?
