Re: Stats trends to worry about?

The graphs in this thread are 5 minute averaged, 1 minute samples of the line statistics as obtained from the SMC cable modem router that came with our Comcast Business Workplace service agreement. A script runs to gather the data, and another one is used to plot the data.

It turns out that the original post was the first sign that a problem was going to happen on my line about 2.5 weeks later. In the months up to this point, the line statistics were very consistent and unwavering.

Tuesday, April 15th is the first overnight outage. Notice that the DnPower and DnSNR have gotten "wavy" compared to the week (& months!) prior.
Then, May 2nd, there was a 5 minute outage and a substantial change in line statistics.
On May 5th, we had 4 outages (5 min, 15 min, 55 min, 45min).
A service tech showed up, measured similar line stats as what the cable modem line stats show below, and he said that a line tech would need to use a bucket truck to check for a problem in the outside plant.

During the outage, we had no video (all static), voice (2 telephone line Comcast voice adapter "DN" was blinking) or Internet (cable light was blinking).

So far, no word on when a line tech will show up. A Comcast van was visiting a neighbor in a building nearby today though.

In the latest graph, after the outage, things appear to have improved.

The SNR is still where it was, which is good (looks to be ~37-38 dB).

The Downstream power is closer to 0 (a good thing), and the upstream power has gone down a bit (also a good thing).

Ya, that's what I found confusing too.
Rhetorical: why are we dropping connection during business hours when the line stats appear to have improved?

One interesting thing is that a utility pole that carries our cable connection started leaning a few weeks ago (appears to have a fist sized chuck taken out of the side of it), possibly the same time as when the April 15th issue occurred.

I'm sure it wasn't a planned outage. Probably maintenance related or just an "oops". Is it happening daily or was it a one time thing?

Well, it happened on Friday once; on Monday it happened a few times for varying durations. Tuesday and so far today, no problems. Go figure. Gotta love intermittent problems.

One other goofy thing that happened is that one of the times, the modem went into state 12 "Registration Complete" but never reached state 13 "TRAFFIC ENABLED". A power cycle was necessary to fix that.

One of the other times, "TRAFFIC ENABLED" did show up, but the port mappings weren't working. I switched off port mappings and enabled a DMZ host configuration to workaround that.
