Re: Explorer 4250HDC Question

Well Mike, I want to tell you what to do if it you scroll down and up the "Quick Menu" and don't see "Picture Format" as a option. What you would then want to do in that case is hit "Menu" button again to go to "General Settings" and scroll down till you see "Set:Picture Format" and change that to "Pass-Through". Then go back to quick menu once your on the program/channel and change the "Picture Format" which will have the 720p/1080i. Most sports channels actually broadcast in 720p anyways so setting to 720p will probably enhance the picture, and changing it over to Pass-Through should automatically change to 720p when the channel/broadcaster is broadcasting in 720p.

Good luck!

First make sure you go through the proper HDTV setup Wizard on the 4250HDC.

With the STB power off and TV on, press the guide and info keys at the same time. Follow the instructions on the screen.

Next, hit menu twice on the remote. Scroll to 'set: Picture format'. Select Auto DVI.

This should allow the box to pass through whatever the broadcast source content is. So if it's 720P you should see the display on the STB change to 720P. Same for 1080i and 480i.

Note: You may have to set the zoom level once and once only when you first change these settings (simply by hitting the HD Zoom button on the remote).

I tried turning off the box, and leaving on the TV, but when I press "Guide and Info" at the same time, nothing happens. The remote doesn't even light up like when I press other keys. However there is an "Auto DVI" setting in the main menu which puts "auto" on the box. I selected that setting, and when to a channel that should be 480i and it still displayed 1080i. I went around to a bunch of other channels, and even though AUTO is displayed, the box showed 1080i for every channel.

Thanks to everyone whose trying to help me!

Guide and Info key on the STB itself. Not on the remote. Sorry, should have clarified that.
