alright guys, Windstream and I are having problems!! They're trying to give me our static IP address. but they're saying that the MAC address on my router is invalid. So I'm talking to a big-wig named Greg in Arkansas, and he's telling me he's looking at the MAC, but then I tell him it's not even on. he said Hmmm.weird. I just had the modem on, no router. So then I plug in the NETGEAR and he's not getting the MAC on the back of my router. So I log into my router, and I manually put i the MAC he wants me to. Still nothing. Well earlier in the day I calld NETGEAR and told them what WS said. He said they were wrong and didn't need my MAC. that all i needed to do was enter the static, gateway and subnet, and it would take care of itself. OH YEAH>> he also told me before I did that , that the modem needed to be in bridge mode. Well, I told that to Greg, and he told me he "THOUGHT" thats' how it's set-up. The guy is REAL cool, and helpful! Awesome really. But I'm not sure what the problem is. Can WS put my modem to bridge mode from corporate?? ANY and ALL suggestons are welcome. THNX in advance!!!
edit: just got off the phone with Greg. I explained again that i needed to put modem in bridge mode, then put the static IP, subnet, and gateway into my router. he said that i'm connected via "IPDSLAM" and theres no gateway. is this correct? i'm not familiar w/dsl. any suggestions is greatly appreciated |

With what you are paying per month for a static IP, I would think WS would be out there to do the install. Heck they did my install for free and I only have DSL with them, not even phone service. |

| reply to xxTRAGEDYxx They don't need your MAC address, static assignment is handled by your PPPoE username. Take it from someone who's switched modems in a 5 minute interval with a Speedstream 5200, Speedstream 4200, Alcatel SpeedTouch Home, and Westel A2100 and has turned up multiple routers with different MAC addresses without issue.
It's a PPP connection (point to point protocol (over ethernet)), there is a gateway. Mine happens to be below which is the exact same as the P-t-P endpoint:
Off-topic: Never any hard feelings between us but I hearken back to your review comments and laugh just a little bit, now you start to see what we deal with :) Again, no hard feelings or ill-will between us but you've just been taken down the road of 'time-waste with no resolution'. |
