| IRC client recommendations
IRC beginner looking for advice on clients. Started with Colloquy and generally like it, however the company server requires client SSL certificate and Colloquy doesn't support it (filed enhancement request). Anybody try Conversation or Snak?
Wish list: - client SSL certificate support - Growl support (keyword triggers growl notice) - threaded conversation view (using first word to sort threads) |

| I think X-Chat Aqua has the option to get Growl support, and should provide SSL support. Also if I am not mistaken doesn't the latest build of Colloguy contain SSL under the connection manager?
Conversation, I tried and seems way to basic for me, but Snak is more advanced and should also provide the options you seek. |

I'll take Snak for a spin. |

| I'm using Colloquy but there is the hassle of ssh port forwarding because it doesn't support client ssl certs. The aluminum style is nice, however I'm starting to discover it only implements some of the IRC command set (but good enough for me so far). The real hassle is lack of client ssl certificate for the server to authenticate me. |

| Never used it, but »www.linkinus.com/
I got a free license (1.x I think) through a heist last year (or one of the mupromo bundles).
Dunno about the SSL thing though, don't see mention on the front page |

said by Joel :Would Firefox + Chatzilla be an option? That was first client I used as it supports client ssl certs. But the UI didn't agree with me and sent me running for another option. So far I like Colloquy except for the lack of client ssl cert. |

You just add the network (server) and channels you want and you can have them auto-connect/auto-join, etc. Once you've set that up, you're done. And changing windows is easy enough - alt-1, alt-2, etc. I highly recommend it, as you can connect from somewhere else and just bring up your screen session to get back to irc. Not sure if that's pertinent here, but it's a plus. -- »hillaryis404.org/ |
