Negative, the new speedstream 4200, and the 2wire gateway modems, both have the new firmware updates along with the "walled garden" setup software. This has replaced the standard setup disk for all new installs, or modem replacements. Once the new modem is plugged in, and trained up for 2-3 min, Internet explorer will launch the walled garden automatically, and setup a username/password, and load the broadband checkup center. As far as we know, there is no way around this setup, and it only supports windows, 2000/xp/vista. If you have a mac the setup will not work, and the bccc will have to manualy setup youre service. | | Napsterbater Premium join:2002-12-28 Milledgeville, GA

| TBH this new 4200 is a POS for having that, it took me 15mins to beat it into submission, You can fix it for bridge Only and you don't need to damn CD.
Plug Directly to the modem, let DHCP give you an address, goto 192.168.254.254 in I.E. or F.F., Username password is admin admin, goto "WAN Interface" press Delete on the far top delete button, then Add New VC, set VPI to 0 VCI to 35, Select the Encapsulation Type: LLC Select the Traffic Class: Unspecified Bitrate
Click Next.
Select the Protocol: RFC-2684 Bridged Enter a name to use for this connection: (Anything is fine here)
Click Next then finish, then click Reboot at the bottom left, and now you have a bridged 4200.
Shadowfax this really sucks for people using the 4200 as a router, you should not have to install the POS software, you should be able to disable the auto login with the WS info and set it up you self.
P.S.: I just switched to 12/.768 and they said I would need a new modem, and i told them i would get my own I don't want the 4200, but they sent it anyway, well I plugged it up to make sure i was getting ADSL2 at 12/.768 (i had been using my 5200 till i got my d-link and was already getting 8.1/.768 from it 8.1 is ADSL1's max) turns out I'm only provisioned for ADSL1 at 8.1/.768 so not only did i get a modem i didn't ask for, that now I'm gonna have to pay to ship back, but I'm not even provisioned right. | | redblkjck Premium join:2001-11-07 Sanford, NC
| @Napsterbater A quicker way if you don't plan on viewing the internal modem page afterwards. While the 4200 hooked up directly to PC. »192.168.254.254/brgmode.cgi You will get a screen saying it is has been set to bridged mode and internal web page will be disabled. Modem reboots in bridged mode. It takes a reset to defaults with the small pin to change it back. Hold it for 5 sec after red light. Seems holding in the pin too long or too short will only reset (power cycle) the modem. I don't like the way they did either. Even when setting 4200 to disable auto connect, it still connects PPPoE. They could have just left the link for bridged mode on the internal web page. It's shown in the modem manual. | |
