Re: Goodbye Telus!

It is very odd that you can actrually get 6mb spd as when TELUS assign u the 3.0 port, it can only go that high and no way to go over and above. When TELUS tells u they can't give u 6.0, is either the equipment is not enough to provide 2+ port or simply u r too far away from the centeral office, as giving u 6.0 w/ a 60 db lost line doesn't help

fyi... 3.0 can be provisioned on either dmt2 ports or adsl2+ ports
either port is technically capable of running 6.0 BUT the programing is only available (currently) to do 6.0 on adsl2+ ports.

JammerMan79,
How did OP get 6.0 from Teksavvy when TELUS cannot? I thought Teksavvy is using TELUS copper pair and dslam.

Not too sure, some resellers simply use telus' copper and rent space in the c/o. They'll have their own port and equipment from there on. I've heard that some other resellers have already rented the hardware and it's being held for them, essentially they've already paid for the plan.

The are various reasons why Telus may not be providing the 6.0 service, I just don't want to go into it all over again. They've been posted numerous times before.

6.0 ports, as far as I understand, can be 'reserved' for TELUS TV customers, and therefore 6.0 may not be available, even if TELUS has the 2+ port available. It's a marketing decision - if there is a limited number right now, I think the company would rather sell TV than Extreme.
Perhaps TELUS can't block Teksavvy from accessing these ports, though.

Teksavvy is, AFAIK, using TELUS DSLAM's.

TELUS has theoretical loop qualification that typically determine speeds and then other systems determine port availability. If the account isn't flagged as eligible the CSRs can't do anything about it. It's better to error on the side of caution and not provide it then to provide it and end up with service calls and troubles and a pissed off customer after the fact.

Also, being that Teksavvy is a small company, they can micromanage their customer base a little easier.

In all honesty, it was most likely a dumb turn of luck...a 2+ port was most likely not available when the client last contacted telus CSR but there was 1 when they called us...we do use Telus slams, we do not use any of our own COs....=)

Either that or the Telus rep the client spoke to didn't realize there was an open port available.
