anon : I've been having AT&T DSL connectivity issues since Saturday evening (05/10/2008). After several calls to AT&T support over the weekend, they had me convinced that it was my PC, even though they had a recorded message on Sunday morning stating that service in Springfield, MO may have been interrupted and would be restored by 12:45 PM CST. The customer support reps I spoke to, in India no less, had no clue about any outages in Springfield and insisted that there were no problems in my geographical area. Upon placing a call to customer support Sunday evening, when I still didn't have service, I was told that they'd have to start charging me for support because there was no outage in Springfield. So... today I took my PC in to have it checked out. It checks out fine. And then I find out that other SBCGLOBAL users in the Springfield area are STILL having connectivity issues. I called the AT&T support number again, just for giggles, and listened to another recording which stated that there ARE outages in the Springfield area and that they should be restored by 5:45 PM CST today (05/13/2008). This is my very first problem with connectivity since signing up with SBC Yahoo! in early 2003. As frustrating as this is, I think that's a pretty good track record! I'm just hoping they get it resolved quickly, as my business relies on it!

hga : Here as requested by David is a full report of my disconnection history. I'll continue to edit this message as long as I can and then add new ones, and will add reports on the dedicated forum as incidents happen.

This is the pattern of not ever losing sync (unless I reset the 2wire) but losing the Internet connection, the 2wire eventually succeeding in logging in, and then the IP address change daemon, which checks every 5 minutes, noticing and reporting the change.

I switched to OpenDNS on 4/9 due to the reports of targeted attacks on AT&T 2wire gateways, and use ChangeIP for logging purposes (which turned out to be a very good thing!), no servers are being run. Before this problem started, my DSL has been ROCK SOLID since it was set up early Feburary 2007.

The one on the morning of 5/11 also coincided with my father losing his IP connection, he's about a mile away from me in Joplin, MO, probably a different DSLAM but otherwise the same setup of an ATM circuit routed to (I assume from DNS naming) Springfield, MO.

The times listed are Pacific unless otherwise noted.

On 5/13 at 10:45-50 am Central time or thereabouts, I noticed a loss of ability to send packets but the 2wire said I'm logged in at the current IP address 70.244.239.36. My IP address monitoring daemon reports this as an inability to detect an IP address, so the log entires below without annotation may be this sort of failure instead of a "have sync, no IP connection" failure. Traceroute fails beyond the 2wire gateway LAN address (192.168.x.x).

I initiated a 2wire soft reset at this point (10:56 am), after which I got IP address 75.6.x.x. Then I could send and receive packets for 10 minutes, followed by the usual have sync but no Internet connection for 20 minutes:

5/13/2008 06:02:34 AM 70.244.239.36 (lost at 7:39 am Central, recovery at I think 8:00 am)
5/13/2008 kept IP address but couldn't send or receive 7:14 am Central time start, recovery at 7:29.

5/13/2008 05:00:01 AM 75.6.6.71 (~ 6:52 am Central time start, 7am restore, I was not able to confirm this was a sync retained Internet connection loss before the connection was restored)
5/13/2008 01:12:28 AM 70.242.165.161
5/12/2008 08:37:26 PM 70.242.165.114
5/12/2008 06:47:31 AM 75.42.238.179 (started at 8:25 AM Central time.)
5/11/2008 07:17:29 PM 75.42.239.97
5/11/2008 06:46:00 AM 70.242.160.167 (started at 7:40 AM Central time)
5/07/2008 08:59:47 PM 70.243.108.36
5/07/2008 07:24:47 PM 70.244.239.25
5/07/2008 05:54:47 PM 69.154.110.200
5/07/2008 03:39:47 PM 70.244.238.78
5/06/2008 08:54:50 PM 70.244.238.246
5/05/2008 09:04:53 PM 69.154.109.151
5/05/2008 06:24:53 PM 68.89.0.40
5/05/2008 05:34:53 PM 70.244.237.206
5/05/2008 11:59:55 AM 75.6.6.86
5/01/2008 09:29:08 PM 68.89.0.241
5/01/2008 03:09:08 PM 68.89.1.126
5/01/2008 03:08:56 PM 68.89.1.126
4/15/2008 01:14:21 AM 70.242.165.118

The second record for 5/1 03:09:08 PM probably represents me accidently forcing an second IP address report through the daemon but cannot be a connection loss, it's 12 seconds after the first.
