Re: [Hamilton] SOHO Speeds...what can I reasonably expect?

1)What, specifically, is your issue?
- Speeds lower than advertised.

a) Is there a specific time that this issue is most prevalent?
Don't really know, shouldn't really matter what time. 16mb is always 16 mb?

b) How long has this issue been going on? (days, weeks, months etc)
Only got the service today.

2) Do you have cable TV? If so, is there any reception degradation..what channels?
Yes cogeco Digital tv, channels seem fine so far

3) Have you contacted customer support about this problem? If so, what did they say?
Not yet. I wanted to hear from other cogeco customers in the area to see if this speed was normal. From there I can decide whether or not to keep the service.

4) What troubleshooting steps have you taken to resolve this problem? (aka: if you haven't tried to help yourself, why should *we* help you?)
Not really sure WHAT steps i can take? The tech ran a new line from the pole and split it from the box outside to the modem. He said my signals were 'fantastic'

5) Info about you:
a) What city are you in? - Hamilton
b) What is your operating system? Windows XP
c) What is your home network setup? Linksys N router, 3 wireless laptops, 2 wired desktops.

d) If you have more than one computer, is the problem occuring on all other machines?

e) Are you running a firewall of any sort? Have you ever installed one? Did you try to turn it off during troubleshooting?no firewall

f) Please supply a traceroute from you to www.dslreports.com. Unedited and in text format. (edit out your IP if you wish).

It matters to those of us troubleshooting, can help us identify an issue

What is experience when you have a single computer connected directly to the modem? You need to first rule out the home network and although I may well be biased I have experience nothing but trouble with Linksys devices. Try one device directly connected for a test for a while.

The answer to this question helps us help you.

Have you scanned for malware recently on all your systems? One infected system on your home network can cause issues.
