Re: I was just on national radio, I'm still shaking!

I've never phoned into a radio show, but I've been interviewed a few times on radio for work (including one time where there was an audience call in portion). I wouldn't want to do it on a regular basis, but it was kind of fun. I'm surprised that I enjoyed it given that I tend to be on the shy side ...

Funny you mention that, I tend to vacillate between being very outgoing and being very shy, I seem to swing between both. When I was a teen I was a bit of a show off when I was in my bands, and I think most people that knew me figured I was very outgoing, but sometimes I really had to fight with the shyness, it's kind of "painful" actually. Part of it was girls during some periods in my life.

I really had a very hard time in my 20's because I was bald (started balding at 15 years old) and lots of women turned their noses up at me. I didn't realize it back then, but those women were doing me a favor IYKWIM, heh.

I'm finally not shaking any more, it's taken me 15 minutes to calm down after the call. Talk about being nervous! I am so silly, I mean, Bruce is a very pleasant host, he is never abusive, sure, he has strong opinions, but he never really abuses any callers, he's not like that lawyer guy Handle on the law, that guy is freaking mean and sarcastic and judgemental.

I think I'll do this again, I want to call in to Coast to Coast AM (don't laugh) and maybe Leo Laporte. I talked to Leo once about Guinea Pigs, he used to have one named "Freckles John".

Speaking of fright and all, a guy visited here today and he was scared to death of my guinea pig!!! Imagine that? I teased him and told him that she's a vampire variety guinea pig, LOL.

If you call into any more shows, let us know how it goes!

I found all of the hosts of the shows to be quite friendly. Even the one show where the host tends to try to 'stir things up' a bit.

And it's all part of his schtick. It's an act, man, an act. You can't see through that?

Yeah, I see through it, but he could be nicer, being mean doesn't "add" anything to a show, not for me anyways. I much more enjoy congenial hosts who evoke interesting ideas and give people enough latitude to express themselves well. Some hosts knock off a caller before the caller has a fair chance.

One of my siblings used to be a DJ, it's so funny, I try to visualize her doing it and I smile (I love her dearly, but its just cute thinking of her actually doing such a thing).

Many years ago I almost went to radio school. I did the sound tests and such and they told me I was born for it, but in the end I chose to be a LASER jocky instead. I just figured I was more use to the world making things than talking about them...

Well lucky me then, because I get to listen Handel 6 days a week. I wake up to his morning show on KFI every weekday morning, then catch his syndicated law show on Saturdays.
His sarcasm and inability to put up with idiots is music to my ears. He became my replacement for Howard Stern when Stern went paid sat radio.

I've never called a radio show though. I also listen to Dr Laura 5 days a week. Although she's too religious for my tastes (that's not hard to do, BTW) she's usually right on when it comes to dealing with kids and taking responsibility for your own mistakes and problems.
