|  Spontaneous pigeon death
In the last day or two, two identical-looking pigeons fell dead into our normal-sized back yard. They were about ten feet from each other and close to the side of the house, so they could have fallen from the roof. I didn't look very closely, but I didn't see any wounds from a gun or anything else. Any idea what might cause this? Shared a poisonous meal? Old age? Second-hand smoke? |

Wasn't the bird flu killing birds the last couple of years. It may be infecting birds in your area or maybe some other disease. Of couse the cats in my neighborhood kill birds around here all the time and leave the carcass lying around.  |

Yeah, pigeons eat a bunch of stuff so it could be simply a case of poisoning, but to be on the safe side, I think I'd bag the birdie bodies and take them to your local Department of Health to see if they test positive for avian flu.

Don't touch them! put them into a trash bag or something you can seal. Use a shovel or something to do this then take them to be analyzed if you really want to get involved?

Once years ago I saw a sparrow drop out of the sky dead. It was a "mid-air death" with no perch above it.
Around here the health dept only tests crows (for some unknown reason)
Two is really odd, but I wait for three before I say it was unnatural. |
