Hello Glove,

As I mentioned in previous threads along with other DSL users there are no guarantees for speeds. Every customer will have a different profile assigned to them. There are many factors that will determine a customer's sync rate. Distance from the equipment, faulty equipment or wiring at the SLAM, inside wiring, faulty phone outlet, modem etc. The only way to tell if DSL is right for you is to get your feet wet and give it a try for a month either with Velcom or any other DSL provider.

A DSL user may post speedtests of 5 Megs and another of 4 Megs however it really depends on the factors mentioned above usually (distance or wiring).

I have Velcom, and I get an average speed of 4.4Mbps download and a 766Kbps upload. I used speedtest.net to run the test and compared it with my neighbours Rogers cable connection which was a 5.3Mbps download and a 472Kbps upload.

Hope this helps.

I once was both with VelCom and TekSavvy, before Bell's
throttling era. Both ISPs used to provide similar speed
and that only makes sense to me since both simply had
their signal transported by Bell. The line conditions
being exactly the same no matter who i was authenticating
my PPPoE sessions with, it was normal to get similar
speeds unless there was a problem at the ISP's location
itself - which i did observe, on rare occasions, a bit
more often with TekSavvy (they were in the middle of some
changes), as i recall. My test results can be found on
this site.
