| Assigned IP manually = No Internet HELP Plz
when I go into network status & tasks to assign my computer an IP such as 192.168.1.70, internet won't work. Works fine when it's automatically. I assigned an IP address to my Xbox 360 and it works fine, but doesn't work on my computer. I am using Siemens 567. |

| Make sure that your manually assigned IP is in the correct range (usually 192.168.0.x or 192.168.1.x) and that it doesn't conflict with any other in-use IPs on the network. Also make sure your netmask is set correctly (normally 255.255.255.0 by default) and that your gateway is set to whatever your router's IP is (192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 depending on which range your network is on).
If your dynamically assigned IP has a netmask higher than 255.255.255.0 (the last digit is >0) then your network is subnetted smaller than 255 addresses, and you'll have to make sure your static IP is in the same range as whatever the subset in use by your router is. |

| reply to GuardianFlash Do this:
Click "start" Click "Run" In the white box type CMD Click OK A black box will open. Type: ping 192.168.1.70
Can you tell me what happens? Do this from the computer you are trying to assign that IP to when you have it setup for automatically. |

and post the information here, if you don't want to publish the information just PM me and I should be able to help you out. If its private addresses I don't see a problem with it being on a public forum, someone correct me if I'm wrong about that |

| reply to GuardianFlash Ok I got it to work. But the problem is, if I assign IP address manually I have to assign DNS server address as well. It won't let me select automatically. I have to use OpenDNS's addresses. What are Telus's DNS addresses? Some people might say OpenDNS is good, but I prefer to use Telus's own since I never had a problem with them. |

| reply to GuardianFlash You have to assign DNS anytime you assign static IP
just assign the DNS server IP the same as your gateway IP = 192.168.1.254
It uses the telus dns servers |
