Here is my experience with wireless after installing SP3, in case something here is helpful to you or to anyone:
After installing SP3 and rebooting for the first time, and at the desktop, Windows displayed two error messages related to my wireless. I didn't understand the messages. Even so, my wireless was working, or it seemed to.
However, I noticed that the configuration utility that was installed and that came with my wireless card (D-Link DWL-G510 Air Plus) wasn't working. So, I reinstalled all the wireless software from the D-Link CD. That action borked my wireless connection, and also, when I tried launching the D-Link configuration utility, I received the same two error messages that I had when I booted for the first time. Of course, the utility didn't work.
Now, I understood that the problem was with the D-Link configuration utility. So, I uninstalled ALL the D-Link software. After doing that, my wireless connection didn't work. What the! It was working before on the first reboot! In Device Manager, I noticed an Unknown Device message. Oh, that must be the D-Link wireless card, I concluded.
So, I used the D-Link CD to reinstall just the drivers, but not the configuration utility. After doing that, my wireless card and connection started working again. The wireless configuration was being handled by the Windows built-in configuration utility. I'm now using the Windows utility for handling the wireless configuration.
Finally, I used Device Manager to update the drivers for the wireless card. I allowed it to search the Internet for an updated driver for the D-Link card. It found an updated driver, downloaded and installed it. My wireless is now working just as good as it did before installing SP-3. All other functions are working properly, by the way.
In conclusion, my wireless card and Windows XP SP3 needed the drivers to work properly. SP3 didn't like the D-Link configuration utility, but it liked the D-Link drivers. End of my story.
