OmniDazzle highlighting, captured with cmd-shift-4
I've been using SnapZ Pro along with OmniDazzle (FlashLight, Cutout and Focal Point plugins). I prefer to use highlighting as callout rather than arrows and shapes. The screenshot I've included was captured using the Mac native cmd-shift-4 technique.

In addition to Preview you might want to checkout SnagIt and Skitch.
