insomxPremium join:2003-01-26 Canada | PC Gaming I'm done with PC gaming also. I've been a die hard PC gamer since day one, but this crap is out of hand. Consoles work so much easier, never any hassles, it's just simpler. Introducing DRM like this can only cause headaches. What about if I'm on a trip with my laptop without internet access? Like others have mentioned what happens in a few years when the company goes out of business? The list goes on about potential problems. |

"Never any hassles" is a pretty optimistic statement. -- What's certain about Darwinism is that it would take less time for (1) a single-celled organism to evolve into a human being through mutation and natural selection than for (2) Darwinists to admit they have no proof of (1) - Ann Coulter |

Hell, I can play HL2 EP2 on max settings, but it took me 2 weeks to get Portal to even run. |

Time, effort, money to get a replacement console...
I never had any issues with Portal worked from day one. What was your issue?
For me PC issues are exceedingly rare but then I don't play 20 games a year either... |

insomxPremium join:2003-01-26 Canada | reply to footballdude How about this whole upgrade thing everytime you want to play the newest game. Hell, it's like a new video card and more ram every year. Consoles last around 3-4, sometimes longer before the new one comes out and kills the production of games for the older one. |

| reply to insomx Yah and their technology really shows. I can take Assassins Creed on my 360 or my PS3 and set it next ot AC on the PC and there's no comparison. The PC blows it away every time. Also, its not nearly as expensive to upgrade as it used to be. Hell, a 9800GTX is like 400 bucks. Its not like you're going to be replacing the entire computer each time... And with consoles trying to be little powerhouses, they will be every bit as expensive every few years to upgrade. |

| reply to CylonRed I still dont know what the problem with Portal is. At first, it would just mininimize/maximize/crash over and over whenever I started it. So I tried forcing it to use opengl and it still didnt work, I finally got it to work by forcing dx8.
These are my start up parameters for it:
full -dxlevel 80 -novid -w 1280 -h 720 -refrsh 59
For some reason my 8600gts runs the refresh at 59 instead of 60, and it wouldnt save the screen settings so I had to force them. |

Just google it up, there are tons of complaints. Mine is, there were just too many glitches (graphic screw ups), it lagged out once and awhile even on the best of PC, list goes on... Some people had no issues, but others did. It depends on your hardware configuation, it likes some, not others.
I played it on a friends 360 and absolutly loved it, no glitches, no lag, no bugs, it just worked. While I agree the detail quality is lower, I'd take that any day over stability. |

I'm not talking about whether the port is good or not, just the fact that the PC, when it runs, looks better than it does on the console. Most ports are horrible, we all know that, but you cant argue that even a mid range gaming PC now is more powerful than a console and is capable of doing more. |
