26 new HD channels for FiOS TV by the end of July?

From »www.engadgethd.com/2008/05/08/26···of-july/ :

Not many HD fans have had to go through a longer drought without new HD channels than Verizon FiOS TV customers, but with analog channels dropping like flies all across the country, we have a juicy little rumor that we just want to believe -- after all, we already feel lied to with spring half way over. The one thing that really adds credibility to the rumor that 26 newcomers will be added by the end of July is the fact that all but two markets will be analog free just in time for 26 new channels of high-def goodness. Many don't realize that Verizon is out of bandwidth on its QAM infrastructure, so in order to free up enough space for 100 HD channels -- unfortunately not all the new throughput will be dedicated to HD -- and to keep its promise to the FCC, Verizon is eliminating 49 analog stations. The bad news is that Florida and Texas will have to wait another few months before they'll have access.

Rumored HD channel additions to Verizon's FiOS TV lineup:

Animal Planet HD
TBS HD
ESPNews HD
Big Ten Network HD
The History Channel HD
MOJO HD
CNN HD
The Learning Channel HD
Showtime Too HD East
Cinemax West HD
The Science Channel HD
Showtime HD West
HBO West HD
The Weather Channel HD
Starz Edge HD
USA HD
Versus / Golf HD
Starz Comedy HD
Bravo HD
CNBC HD
Starz Kids and Family HD
Outdoor Channel HD
SCI FI HD
Lifetime HD East
Smithsonian HD
Pay Per View HD (Events)

Considering that Western Pennsylvania is already analog free (always has been), I'm not sure how credible the article is.

That would likely be East PA, since West PA never had analogs.

That doesn't make sense for eastern PA "since western pa is all digital".Why would pa have to wait a few months when there switch over is in june.I can see TX and FL because there switch over is in aug and sept. This article is crap

What goes around comes around ....
The Endgadget article seems to have gotten it's "rumor" & exact list from the other thread on this board, & in turn started this thread!

I just read the article via the link the OP gave and the reference in it to Western Pa has been deleted.

I had a Tech out yesterday because my ONT "phone access" went out. I asked him about the new HD channels and he said he has been hearing quite a bit of complaints. He had NO idea when then would be added, but said mid-July was his guess based on what he has heard.

However, he really had no idea. BTW, we knew his stuff and knows of these forums so he seems to keep up with it.

Not to sound like a pessimist, but it's actually only 12-13 HD channels being added because the premium channels (pay channels) I don't consider them part of the "HD Package".

D* does the same thing....

Ya, all we do is complain...
Why is that?

Lifetime EAST HD, but not FX HD...Brilliant.
Give the guy who came up with that a big bonus Verizon.

And thanks for giving us SciFiHD just in time for the Battlestar Galactica Season to be over.

Simply brilliant...

Yeah, that pretty much sucks, but at least we'll have it for when SG:A comes back on

I was told by a rep in the office of VP of prog. about same time

he said end of June/beginning of July, but wouldn't give a specific date. He told me channels included would be Big Ten Network, Fox Business HD, and MLB extra innings. He said that they were trying to get all analog switched first and was working on fixing it up to get all channels available.

Re: 26 new HD channels for FiOS TV by the end of July?

The final season of BSG is split in two. The second half of the final season will air this fall or in 2009.
The first half of the final season ends on June 13th.

Im a big fan of sports and hd. Dont get me wrong, I'll take any new HD channels, but it seems Verizon is also a bit behind the ball when it comes to MLB, NHL indemand. Rumors of adding MLB this summer are nice to hear, but if they are true, by the time they actually turn off analog, half the mlb season will be over. Thats also assuming everything with the shut off goes as scheduled. Bad planning in my opinion. Im not a tech when it comes to my fios/fiber, but I thought the advantage with fiber was you have unlimited ability to add channels unlike cable lines? Why do they need to wait for analog to get turned off before they add anything? Cable companies are doing the same thing as Verizon, going all digital and adding the same hd channels. Seems like to me that fiber holds just as much data as cable lines.

FX doesn't show any actual HD content... neither does Lifetime. So who cares?

This is because InDemand is owned by cable companies and are palying hardball when dealing with the competition like Verizon.

The reference to PA should probably have been CA which will have its analog until Sept.
