Re: SB5100 died

I have Scientific Atlanta DPC 2100 R2 for about 1.5 years now. I think it is a very sturdy and heavy-duty modem. Even though it doesn't look as attractive as Motorola, it has very thick plastic and manages heat no problemo. Since I replaced my cable to RG6 - no sync loss, unless there is maintenance on the line (Rogers van on the bottom of my building). I like this modem a lot.

I know everybody here likes motorolas, but hey, popularity is not the key. I recently helped someone with their DSL line and they had SpeedTouch 516 V6 - the one everybody praises in Teksavvy forum. The plastic there is very thin (my modem is like a tank compared to it) and the heat generated almost melts it. The guy is afraid to leave it ON all the time, so he turns it ON and OFF when he needs it. My SA is on 24/7/365 and is barely warm.

BTW, those top buttons Signal, Status and Log are locked, but when the modem loses sync it opens them up, so you can check the log and what exactly is lost (in my case it is usually upstream).
