I'm a new triple play customer, and I've only had it for 9 days- today. Got the first bill already today in the mail, and it's due on the 15th of this month, only a week away. Is Cablevision always not give any float time to pay the bill? |

| Bills are usually due 2 weeks after the statement date. Your statement date is the day you started service, and will be the same from this point forward.. Also, for most services, you pay a month in advance, so your first bill tends to be a lot as you pay for the partial month as well as the moth in advance. |

| I dunno if that's exactly correct Rick. My billing period is from the first of the month through the end of the month. Yet, like the OP, I just got my statement today and it also is due on the 15th.
I don't think CV is alone in allowing less float time from when a statement is mailed until it's due. I'm seeing that with other companies I do business with as well.
One solution, at least in the case of CV, is to receive your statements electronically. At least that way you gain the few days lead time lost when your paper statement travels in the mail. Personally, I don't elect that method. I just pay the paper bill when it shows up.

My billing period ends on the 22nd and is due on the 6th or 7th each month.
I dont get paper bills, but do get online statements -- they are usually available on the 21st or 22nd.

| Yep, I guess you're correct about the end-of-the-billing period.
It just seemed strange to me that mine was by the calendar month. I assumed everyone else's was too. That's what I get for assuming.

| reply to digitaldoc77 This is what's called a 'bill cycle'. Most companies, such as Cablevision, don't process everyone's bill on the same day. It's simply a lot more efficient to spread the bill generation workload around across the entire month. (The billing system can process portions of the customer base in each bill cycle, instead of doing it all at once.)
I don't know how many 'bill cycles' Cablevision uses, but it appears they have at least 3 from this thread alone -- the 1st, the 15th, and the 22nd. That leads me to think there's probably also the 8th and possibly the 29th.
A lot of companies will let you change the bill cycle to one that better fits your needs - it wouldn't hurt to call customer service and see if they can change it to something that better aligns with your cash flow. |

| reply to digitaldoc77 Thanks for the thoughts, and I'll call them when I get a chance. It seems like for those that get a paper bill, and even if I'm away for a few days, it could easily be late through no real fault on my part. My attitude with these companies is that if they want the dough, just send out the bill and give me some lead time to make sure the checking account can cover it! |

It's due on the same date each month, mark it on a *to pay* list so you remember when it's due. It's not like they surprise you with a different bill date each month. -- 11,044 DEADLY TERROR ATTACKS SINCE 9/11~~TEAM DISCOVERY Can't feel you anymore, don't need you anymore, don't believe you anymore, I don't need you anymore

quote: Payment is due by the due date indicated on the front of your bill. If you have not paid your bill within 30 days, your account is considered delinquent, and we may begin collection procedures. If payment is not received within 60 days of the date indicated, you will be charged a $5 late fee. You will be notified in writing if we need to disconnect your service due to non-payment.

in reality what happens is...they let it go a double bill then will shut you off if not paid by their date in shut off notice |

| reply to digitaldoc77 I called and spoke to someone at Cablevision who agreed it was kinda fast this billing cycle. He told me that the 15th is the due date, but there is a 15 day "grace period" before anything happens. He also stated the 60 day period before they turn you over for collection. He told me in the future that my bill would go out on the 30th. I figured out that I can also pay it by credit card via the 800 number so that eliminates the mail delay to send it back. I just like to pay things on time, but they should give me few days from when I get it to pay it- it's only good business. |

Just go to 'My Account' at »https://www.optimum.com/account/index.jsp and sign up for online statements.. You'll get email notification when your bill is ready each month, and 2 weeks to pay it. Be careful with the 800 number to make payments - if you speak to a representative to do it, they will charge you an additional $5. You can also set up one time or automatic payments via credit card, debit card, direct debit, etc using the 'My Account' thing online. Personally, I choose online statements only from them, and then schedule the payment with my bank's online banking.

| Cablevision should have made you give the installation technician a check or money order for your first months service. That bill you got is just showing what you paid for, but it might not show the payment you gave to the installer.
I got a similar bill, and I don't plan on paying it since I already paid for the month. I looked online and my account balance is $0 with the payment that I gave to the installer credited... so the bill and the payment crossed in the mail. If I were to send another payment, I would have paid for this month twice at which point I would have a large credit until the end of June. |

They usually dont ask for a deposit on your first month service unless you are a brand new customer or you've had payment issues in the past with them -- at least out here on LI. It may be different in systems where they have issues with delinquent payments. |

| No sense of humor Jmartz?
FWIW, about 10 months ago I signed up for BOOL at my office in Westchester. I was a new customer there and they did not require payment in advance.
As RickNY said, it may vary system by system, and it may also be different with BOOL. |
