DiVX as The Phoenix

Like that nutcase sceme has risen from the ashes!!!

DiVX discs needed re-authorizing in order to play beyond a 48 hour period. If someone wanted to always use the disc, they paid a lump sum.

DiVX went belly up! Those who paid a lump sum...took their lumps!

Welcome to the future of digital!

Thank You. At least someone remembers Digital Video Express, Circuit City and there Lawyer associates efforts to make the playing of DVD's pay per play. Of course there was Google's Music Service locking customers out of the music that they paid for and now there is Microsoft Music Service wanting to do the same thing. In the future consumers will not have music collections because with most DRM systems replacing their computer will require customers to repurchase the music they have already purchased.

Of course before DRM there was what I have named Format Filtering. With Format Filtering every time a new media type comes out all of the music recorded on the previous format is not recorded on the new media. When the old format, for example Eight Track Tapes, is discontinued the players are also discontinued. If one has a large collection of Eight Track Tapes, when there last Eight Track Player craps out their Eight Track Tapes are worthless. The only one that can protect the consumer is our Government. Unfortunately the politicians are only interested in campaign support from big business.
