If you get it to work, it's because of really good SNR on the upstream.  BUT at that level, that modem will run hot and be subject to premature failure and subject to lots of errors and temp. disconnects.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/539077"><b>sbrook</b></A> : Yes, it can handle 63 users but it's referring to a strange scenario ...<br><br>You have 63 users connected via a hub, switch or router (without a DHCP NATP server inbuilt) to the modem.  The modem is connected to the cable CMTS and the cable operator assigns you 63 different IP addresses (yeah, as if we'll do that on Rogers! But that's a different matter)<br><br>Now, if the cable CMTS connection is lost, the modem can hand out 63 local IP addresses (the 64th is the .0) so that your internal network can continue operation until cable resumes.<br><br>Hence the 63 user scenario.<br><br>IF you're connected instead by a Router with DHCP NATP (like most domestic cable routers) your Router assigns the IP addresses which remain, even during a cable network failure and your local net will carry on even though your external net will drop.  The limit of users in this case is simply the number that the router can cope with.  As far as the modem is concerned, it has one user ... the router.]]></description>

That was why Rogers stopped distributing them shortly after getting them.  There was a major upgrade and all the people with TeraJet modems were essentially offline for over a week as Terayon worked out the firmware glitch that caused them to cycle on and off line.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/1520810"><b>mental_guy</b></A> : I have Scientific Atlanta DPC 2100 R2 for about 1.5 years now. I think it is a very sturdy and heavy-duty modem. Even though it doesn't look as attractive as Motorola, it has very thick plastic and manages heat no problemo. Since I replaced my cable to RG6 - no sync loss, unless there is maintenance on the line (Rogers van on the bottom of my building). I like this modem a lot.<br><br>I know everybody here likes motorolas, but hey, popularity is not the key. I recently helped someone with their DSL line and they had SpeedTouch 516 V6 - the one everybody praises in Teksavvy forum. The plastic there is very thin (my modem is like a tank compared to it) and the heat generated almost melts it. The guy is afraid to leave it ON all the time, so he turns it ON and OFF when he needs it. My SA is on 24/7/365 and is barely warm.<br><br>BTW, those top buttons Signal, Status and Log are locked, but when the modem loses sync it opens them up, so you can check the log and what exactly is lost (in my case it is usually upstream).<div class="borderless"><TABLE WIDTH=95% align=center border=0 CELLPADDING=4"><TR><TD ALIGN=CENTER VALIGN=CENTER BGCOLOR=#FFFFFF nwrap COLSPAN=3 WIDTH=100%><A HREF="/speak/slideshow/20451693?c=1305173&ret=L2ZvcnVtL3IyMDQ1MjQwNS54bWw%3D"><IMG TITLE="19827 bytes" BORDER=0 WIDTH=567 HEIGHT=375 SRC="/r0/download/1305173~f4366cd6d3f92275b365f304eb8354c5/SA.png"></A></TD></TABLE></div>]]></description>

I went to a Rogers store, and got a replacement, but is a Scientific Atlanta DPC-2100R2 because they had no Motorolas in stock. I remember they used to be terrible a few years ago with a number of issues. <br><br>Have these gotten better, I assume this is being an "R2" its a second version, hopefully improved?
