Re: MLPPP on WRT54G/Tomato, progress report (with download) Wow, good job guys! I was beginning to think you guys gave up. Way to go. Too bad my mlppp server is down and my dsl lines are canceled for the summer. I hope you guys get this done by September so I can share it with my all my university buddies. |

| This is awesome!!
It sucks that I don't have that kind of router, but I plan on doing it my own way anyhow.
Multi-link for the masses! Not only will people cancel their Bell/Rogers, but this will open up the possibility for TSI to make 2x as much from us! AND unthrottle! |

 | reply to gf67g867byb Nope, no x86 port.

The early GS models also had 8MB of Flash and 32MB of RAM, although you'd be pressed to go much above 216MHz clockspeed. |

 | reply to Guspaz oh snap.. that sounds great. but wait. is the wrt54g powerful enuff to handle both lines and balance them? from i have been gathering i was told making a linux based router from old cpu parts was better? -- "carpe diem" |

 | reply to Guspaz We don't yet know, as we haven't had time to benchmark. |

 | reply to Guspaz ok sounds good..
so who is willing to guinea pig their wrt54gl's to stress test this firmware? -- "carpe diem" |

 | reply to Guspaz DISCLAIMER: no guarantees, use at your own risk, was tested on a WRT54GLv1.1.
New version: This version integrates pppd into the gui: If you select pppd it will in-fact be using pppd not pppoecd.
There's no gui for doing true multilink yet, however, the above will attempt a single link mlppp session.
To get actual multi-link working, ssh into the box, then copy the file /etc/ppp/peers/pppoe to something else and edit it appropriately and start it up. Logs will be in /var/log/messages. Also, if you plan to do benchmarks, please note that none of the ppp compression options are currently turned off, so ymmv. You should be able to change this by editing the above mentioned pppoe file, then running "pon pppoe". It will be reset if redial kicks in though.
Development issues: We ran into a problem while using pppd: using vlan1 makes it segfault. This version has a workaround: if it sees that it's on vlan1, then it creates a br1 and uses that instead. Other platforms may have the same issues, but on different interfaces, if you run into the problem please inform us.
Does anyone know how to get a stack trace or some such out of an application on Tomato? |

GuspazGuspazPremium,MVM join:2001-11-05 Montreal, QC kudos:16 2 edits | reply to Guspaz Early results show ~30% CPU usage while using BitTorrent.
This is a single link, wired, no QoS.
We can presume that using WLAN with encryption will take that up to about 40%. Multilink will at least double it.
My early conclusion is that two DSL lines will be possible wirelessly, but doing other stuff like QoS at the same time might be tight.
Overclocking may help a bit, as the WRT routers should normally run at 216MHz relatively safely (albeit that's only an 8% improvement in clockspeed).
We're not going to try a bit of dual-link benchmarking on my single DSL line.
EDIT2: I'm seeing predictable phase arrays... Wait, sorry, no. I mean, CPU usage in true multilink mode (as in, running two PPP sessions on my one DSL line) seem to be about the same.
Problem is, with only one DSL line, and nothing like tcpdump to use, we're not a hundred percent sure that I'm actually using two links. It seemed to attach correctly to the original ppp0 bundle when I started up the second one (although it took numerous retries to get it on the same ERX to use the existing bundle).
EDIT3: It should be noted that, regardless of true multilink, as a novice user who knows nothing of these things, you should be able to just stick this firmware on your router to defeat throttling... |

JayMan26WhootPremium join:2002-06-05 Earth 1 edit | reply to Guspaz Guspuz let me know if/when you get a GUI for the dual DSL links. I will flash one of my WRT's to it and hook it up.
You know. I could setup a RDP session on my on a XP box with 2 NIC's 1 for the incoming RDP connection with no gateway settings. The 2nd NIC to the router and modems.
You would be able to run tests using it at your whim. |

Vinch join:2007-10-24 Pointe-Claire, QC | reply to Guspaz Does anyone know how to seperate a port from the switch into its own VLAN under Tomato? I have tried changing it in the NVRAM but something keeps on resetting it to the original value when it boots up. Yes, I did a commit. |
