Re: MLPPP on WRT54G/Tomato, progress report (with download) said by brassy:Stupid question.. does teksavvy (or bell for that matter) care if you login twice on the same line? Are you going to get charged twice? Or am I missing something? We're not logging in twice with the same line. For true MLPPP you bond two (or more) separate DSL lines together, two logins, two separate phone lines, two modems. For this firmware that DSL_Ricer and Guspaz have worked on, it uses only a single DSL line (in the GUI), but implements MLPPP to make the single connection instead of PPPoE. You can use it for true MLPPP with added configuration changes through the command line. The true use of MLPPP is to bond multiple lines to bet more bandwidth, in this firmware, it is using a single-link MLPPP that has the benefit of fooling DPI.
BTW, nice work DSL_Ricer and Guspaz. Now I want a second DSL line to play with. I hope Jon the Tomato guy picks up on this post and implements it in future releases of Tomato as an option for MLPPP. |

brassy join:2004-01-09 Brantford, ON | I run freebsd as my nat box, so I can run mlppp on my one line and get it to bypass the throttling? or what? And are you allowed to do this? |
|
 | I would assume your freebsd would do this, but I think it involves a kernel recompile and config. I'm not a linux guy, just from what I've read. Sure we're allowed to do this. Teksavvy supports MLPPP. The bigger question is is Bell allowed to do what it's doing (rhetorical NO!)? |

| reply to Guspaz said by Guspaz:The highest supported models can be found on the Tomato FAQ: » en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Tomato_Fir···_devicesIncluded in the latest MLPPP build were, I believe, all the standard Tomato firmware images. So it should run on any of those. HOWEVER, it has only been tested on the WRT54GL v1.1, and pppd might not work correctly on others if they change the interface names. This build of Tomato assumes that: 1) The WAN port is vlan1 2) The switch is br0, and that br0 exists 3) The next bridge created will be br1 If either of those three (sort of two) assumptions doesn't hold for other hardware, pppd won't work. But we believe that they're PROBABLY the same. I can verify it works fine on a WRT54GS v2.0 also. -- GOLF LEAFS GOLF! |

TCZ @teksavvy.com | reply to Radar73 Well, i contacted Noxxic a few times reguarding implementing MLPPP and now i just sent him a link to this thread, hopefully he will check it out. If enough people do the same maybe he will come here and read the thread |

 | reply to Guspaz Just want to make sure I have this right:
1. Installed the correct image (in my case, the WRT54G_WRT54GL.bin) 2. Rebooted 3. Made sure I had PPPoE selected (which is actually pppd) 4. Manually changed MTU to 1442
Is that it?
If yes, then the firmware runs on a WRT54G v2.2, although I don't know if it avoids throttling just yet. |

This is still PPPoE, it doesn't replace that. It's just adding MLPPP on top of that.
FreeBSD, to my knowledge, doesn't require a kernel recompile to use MLPPP. |

GuspazGuspazPremium,MVM join:2001-11-05 Montreal, QC kudos:16 | Yay for Opera on my cellphone... Anyhow, you end up paying for two logins when you get the second line, so teksavvy usually just gives you one account with 400 GB per month instead of two accounts with 200 GB each. |
|
 | Hrmm Anyone whos good with math be able to calculate at approx 1 meg/Second download speed Constant how long it would take to download 400 gigs? |

GuspazGuspazPremium,MVM join:2001-11-05 Montreal, QC kudos:16 | reply to Guspaz It'd take just as long as it would with a single link and 200 GB :P
You're actually able to get unlimited, although they might want you to get two unlimited accounts considering that you could use double the bandwidth. |
|
 | reply to Guspaz The wiki on Tomato indicates it works on the WRT54G for v1-v4.
How do I know before buying it which one it is ?
Would this work ?

| I think if you buy retail you have to make sure to get a GL version. I believe you have to open the box to see the revision. -- GOLF LEAFS GOLF! |

See »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linksys_WRT54G_series for the serial numbers vs versions for the different models.
The serial # and MAC address are also in the box next to model number barcode for my GS v.2 |
