| reply to captainjy Re: 6 New HD Channels in Denver by end of May
Comcast will continue to add HD Channels. Biggest problem right now isn't Comcast completely but more so the studios and broadcasting companies to upgrade their cameras and other equipment so they can produce shows and movies in HD. Highly watched shows like Oprah and Ellen won't show up in HD even when you go to the HD Channel (seperate channel from the analog version). Comcast knows this and is adding channels slowly probably because of this.
You can tell when you are watching a true-HD picture not only from quality but it will be a widescreen picture, if there are two side bars on the right and left of the picture making the picture square, your actually watching Standard Definition.
So even though DirecTV claims it has more HD Channels, thats really nice to have the channels ready for HD but most programs aren't. The program has to be recorded, broadcasted, received and displayed using HD equipment to be true HD.
Comcast has HD On Demand and will also be adding more and more HD stuff. Another obstacle for Comcast is bandwidth for each channel. Each "Analog Channel" could be replaced by 12 "Digital Channels". So think of the possibilities there! |

| No. On my system the problem IS Comcast. They refuse to add channels on my system (Comcast of NJ II) while the same people that are in charge of Northern NJ add more channels on Comcast NW NJ and Comcast of Central NJ. Why? No one can give a straight answer...
Now I know why I see a ton of dishes from E* and D* popping up everywhere. |

| sansri88 - did someone at Comcast in NJ tell you they will never add channels? I doubt that. Comcast has to change equipment at the "Head-End" where the content is sent from. Other programming of hardware there is required and tested before additions can be made. I can tell you they already have plans to add HD channels in the NJ area so although I and others might not know exactly when they change will happen, Corporate has made some pretty good size commitments at the national level. |

| SDV. You see, though, the people that run our area removed 3 analog channels from the lineups in Central NJ (I think) and on the Ocean County/Toms River lineups. Why can't they remove the same analog channels here as well, for a short term solution to the lack of HD channels? |

| Oh don't worry they will be removing channels. It's only a matter of time. Your in the Eastern Division, and then each division is broken up into regions. My thoughts are that it could be upgrade problems, they may need to do a bit more in your area to get stuff done versus the other areas you said have already moved forward. There could be other issues, but look to the future to see many changes and updates. |
