embarq_cesar : Hello Spudley
This is Cesar from Embarq Online Support
The guys here are correct, the default IP address of your Belkin N Router is the same as our Embarq 660 modem: 192.168.2.1
Here is what I need you to do in order to get connected:
Connect only the Belkin router to your PC, for this step you have to temporarily disconnect our 660 modem from the router and turn it off.

Using your Internet browser, you can access the Router’s Web-Based Advanced User Interface. In your browser, type 192.168.2.1 (do not type in anything else such as (http// or www) type just the numbers and then press the Enter key.
There is no password by default, so leave blank.
You will see the Router’s home page in your browser window.
To View the LAN Settings, click on the header of the LAN tab (1) will take you to the LAN tab’s header page. A quick description of the functions can be found here. To view the settings or make changes to any of the LAN settings, click on “LAN Settings”
The default IP Address is 192.168.2.1, please change it to 192.168.1.1 and click on "Apply Changes"
Now exit out of the window and shut down your computer.
Power the router off and make sure the 660 modem is also off.
Re-Connect the modem to the router and wait for a minute.
Turn our 660 modem on first and wait for the DSL light to turn solid green.
Then turn on your Belkin Router and then your computer.
This should get you online!
If this does not work, I suggest giving Belkin a call for support.
Thanks
--
Cesar L
Embarq Support Online
smnp.cesar.l@embarq.com
For additional support and live chat please visit www.myembarq.com/contact_us.php
Voice | Data | Internet | Wireless | Entertainment

anon : Last I checked Belkin routers use the IP address 192.168.2.1, which is the same IP address the 660 modem uses. Either change the IP on the Belkin or bridge the modem.

If you're using both devices in their default configuration that is the only required change.

zach_lloyd : Embarq doesn't use PPPoE, so swap it over to DHCP (Dynamic). It shouldn't ask for a username/password if it's in DHCP mode. Once you change this setting, I'd turn off the modem and router, then power on the router first and let it boot up. After it's done booting, power on the modem.

Belkin advice please

anon : I have a 660 modem and a Prestige USB adaptor that work perfectly. I am now trying to connect to EMBARQ useing a Belkin N Router. Double checked, triple checked all cable connections and all ok. I am using the wizard that came with the router. I have to manually type in the ISP because EMBARQ is not listed in the menu.. I have tried all connections (Static, Dynamic,PPPoE,PPPoA,PPTP) I am then asked for my user name, password and service name. Then this seems to go through but I get a message saying the ISP is not responding to my user name or password and service name. Is the service name ( EMBARQ )? I know the user name and password are correct because I can log in to email ok. Any advice would be appreciated.
Spudley
