How many outlets are installed

... with basic cable + high-speed internet bundle?

Just one?

Or two - one for TV (cable service) and one for cable modem (internet service)?

I've always thought it was just one because when I used to live in a two-floor apartment, we were charged for an "additional outlet." We had two outlets - one on the first floor for the TV and another in one of the bedrooms upstairs for the router/cable modem.

But then, I came across a post here that said there should be one outlet for each service - cable and internet.

Which one is true? Any Shaw tech person here who can state with certainty what Shaw's official policy is?

I'm sure there is a limit, but if you need 3 outlets for TV Shaw will put them in. Yes, the cable modem will have its own outlet.

You pay the same regardless of the number of outlets (assuming you pay for both cable and internet).

I don't know what the 'official' policy is, but they installed two for me, one for tv and one for internet, and a month later a third for another tv.

I wasn't charged additional outlets, but I was charged for an 'additional tv' on that third outlet every month (which is normal of course)

unless it has changed recently

your internet gets an outlet and digital phone gets one no cost.

When it comes to TV, with basic you get 1 outlet for your TV, for any more its an extra $5 a month per outlet.

if you have full cable you get 4 outlets, $5 more a month per outlet over that.

most techs dont care to much unless you went cable splicing and made their job difficult.

This according to Shaw's website:

Under Basic Cable it says you are allowed one cable outlet.*
Under Classic Cable it says you are allowed up to four cable outlets.*
*Installation fees may apply. Extra outlets may be installed for an additional charge.

Which is strange. I have Basic Cable and 4 outlets in the house (plus 1 for internet) and I don't pay a $5/month fee. According to the last tech who was at our house a year or so ago Shaw doesn't charge that fee any more. When you think about it, why should they? The phone company doesn't charge you more if you have 1, 2 or 5 phones in the house. I can see if Shaw needs to do a lot of work to wire a new outlet, but that should be a one-time fee.

In my opinion anyone getting dinged that $5 fee should call Shaw and ask to have the fee taken off.

having an outlet and using an outlet are different things. They will only charge if you use.
and as i mentioned above most techs dont care unless it makes their job hard.

i don't know why shaw would charge per outlet but my best guess is the more outlets and splits you have the more signal you need to feed those outlets. although that usually doesn't change outside the house, but shaw will put an amp in and replace if needed at no charge... they need to make their money somehow.

but in the end i can agree with you why pay per outlet.

All 4 outlets are connected to TVs, 3 of which are used daily, so it's not that they're not used. I don't know if Shaw charges anyone these days for the extra outlet, but they have the right to.

I agree, a difficult customer and/or installation and an installation fee will likely be charged.
