| [CATV] Sudden loss of most but not all channels >79 (Madison, WI
Haven't been on the site for quite a while because we've not had problems. However, now we have a very strange one. The problem developed sometime between late Tuesday evening and this morning, when my daughter discovered it. We have two digital receivers and the problem is identical with both. The box has been reset twice and the on-line tech was not able to find any cause for the problem. Here's the problem:
We have the Charter bundle, which in our area includes phone, internet, and Basic, Expanded Basic, Movie View, HBO Cinemax Pack, Starz Encore, Total View, Sports View, & Family Channels. Channels 80 (Game Show) and 81 (G4) have never shown up on either of the receivers since we moved to this house in October, but they are supposed to be in the channel line-up. This is probably a separate problem but it would be nice to get it resolved.
The big new problem is that all of a sudden, most of the channels 100 and above aren't available, nor are most of the premium movies channels and none of the music channels. The only channels we are receiving are 109, 112, 114, 118, 123, 150, 168, 200, 247, 250, 286, 289, 302, 304, 306, 308, 350, 351, 352, 353, 354, 355, 356, 357, 358, 359, 360, 361, 416, 418, 420, 422, 600, 605, 610, 615, 620, 650, 655, 660, 700, 705, 710, 715. Although none of the audio channels are working we are getting three TV channels: LMN on 908, Bio on 907, and History Int'l on 920.
There is no obvious pattern to which ones we're getting and which ones we're not, i.e., not all of the channels of a particular are unavailable or available.
We have a technician scheduled for Sunday afternoon (Happy Mother's Day!) but I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions to offer in the meantime. Or suggestions on how to appease the soccer fanatic who is without the soccer channel for the weekend! | | Ditchdigger55060

As A Charter Tech, I would say you have some signal issues in your home set up a service call you will find that the Digital signals are low. Have the tech fix the issue... Good Luck. | | geekymom

| Thanks for the note. Just curious--how would signals suddenly get low? The line was freshly dropped and buried in October when we moved in (the original home owners had satellite) and nothing's been tampered without outside that I can tell (box is locked, etc.)
I'm only asking because I like to be prepared when the tech comes; having good questions to ask and some idea of the range of reasonable answers has helped me in the past. | | terryw

| reply to geekymom Could be numerous things. Some lovely ground animal nibbling on your cable, a bad amp, water in the tap (happened last year with the bad ice storm and quick melting we had here, caused a lot of trouble), splitter going bad... best to have a tech find out, he/she'll let you know | | geekymom

I hope it's something that's easily fixed!
And it turns out, after one family member actually watched TV for a while late last night, that the channels above 100 that do come in are pretty much not corresponding to the alleged channel number. Guess we have Cable Roulette going on. | | geekymom

Guess we have Cable Roulette going on. Tech came out, and turns out we were on the wrong map. Another household in the area had a similar problem. We're apparently borderline between two maps, and must have somehow been put on the wrong one between Tuesday and Thursday | |
