| Urgent Help with wiring, is the filter dead?
Something is up with my house wiring, something is holding the line open, all phones are disconnected and the VDSL service is fine.
I've been running on the rewiring I've done for a while now I don't think its what I did. I think its the filter but I'm not actually sure.
With everything in the house the dial tone will not restore its self, waited 2 minutes then tested line, this includes RG or anything that would plug into the phone.
Getting an automated line test from AT&T will restore dial tone but line is held open.
Testing at the test jack on the (bauln?) in my kitchen is no dial tone, if I unplug the test jack for 2 min. Tone is not restored.
If I disconnect the bauln/filter for a minute the reconnect Tone is restored but the line is held open. The only thing I have yet to try is to just remove the bauln/filter completely and sing if I have consistant tone and line close. |

Ended up having to change the Splitter/balun/filter, and also had to do a port swap at the VRAD. And the customer commented that the POTS line had stopped working during a storm... Something shorted out the POTS signal.
Was there an exact time or incident or anything that you can think of that coincided with when your POTS line started to be held open? |

| reply to Mr Anon Sorry joe_washu, I am not sure, there are conflicting reports and trough be told the problem was brought to my attention hours after it had happened and we booth commented on how we didn't have a single call after I walked in the house.
I called and asked for a replacement, I do believe its the splitter. If I bypass it the phone works fine. I even tried using it without the pair that I run to the RG connected and it still did it.
Thanks for you wonderful and fast replies! They are sending me a replacement unit, if that one goes I'll ask to have my wiring checked. |

| They would have to send a tech out, since the VDSL filters that they use aren't really supposed to be handled by the customer. It is odd that they are actually sending one out to you though...
The filter you are talking about looks like this doesn't it (the module on the bottom)? |

| reply to Mr Anon Yes thats it cool kid. They very well may be sending a tech I do remember her saying it would take 24 to 48 hours and that unfortunately something something something. The problem was that the connection to them via the cell phone was so bad that I couldn't understand what she said all the time.
The most shocking part of this was the automated line checker when I called normal service. It auto checked the line and told me there was no issue and that I could check my phones or my location for trouble and option one (check) location instructed me to go to the netpop with a screw driver and use the test jack. I thought that was really something I'd want to keep most customers away from. |

| It's a known fact with technicians that baluns short out frequently, thus disabling DT but video continues to work normal. Call your line if it rings busy w/ everything tied down then your balun is shorted. If it just rings and rings then it's possibly another issue. |
