Re: Vonics gone?

It's stuff like this that makes me afraid to go with what seems like a nice company (Future-Nine) and to consider VOIP from AT&T. At least AT&T isn't going to go under suddenly. I'm wondering if low rates don't always come with solvency problems.

If you want stability, a cableco VoIP offering or AT&T's service are probably your best bets. Upsides: dial tone--always, stability--as you said, not going anywhere soon. Downsides: cost--you can definitely do better on price, features--other VoIP providers with relatively long history offer more features (think VoicePulse), flexibility--AT&T won't support BYOD any time soon, if ever.

While startups like Future-Nine and soon-to-be-public Voipo are certainly unproven, a little research before jumping to the next low-price leader can save you some major headaches later.

Edit: Decided not to hijack the thread.

Yet another shady provider bites the dust... I'm so sorry for all you guys who just lost your dial tone. If there's anything I could do for you please let me know.

I'm not sure if it's still possible, but you might want to try and port your number away ASAP. We can't waive the porting fee unfortunately (it costs us too much to port), but if you need a place to "park" your number for a month or two, we'll do the parking part for free.

As far as worries about other VoIP companies (and Future Nine) going the same route, I think it really depends on the company and the leadership. Unfortunately most providers are not profitable, so your worries are founded. As far as Future Nine goes though, while we're certainly not a large player (yet!), we've had insane growth in April and expect it to continue at this rate (or faster). At this point our real problem is trying to catch up adding personnel and infrastructure. In fact we've just finished building a new server which will be shipped to our data center tomorrow.
