Hayward : Plus the factor that the are not omni directional, even if degined for national coverages they have a concentrated semi directional "footprint"

For instance in KW we are so far south, that I am actually looking much more straight UP (less atmosphere) in fact most of the way to the upper dish elevation setting limit, but my signal strenght is far lower than those in say GA as I am very close to the edge of the "footprint" intented to hit the main body of the US, the the strongest signal.

Conversely those farther north see longer severe storm interference and could be one miles away they aren't even directly experiencing, just passing over, as they are looking more sidways through the atmosphere. Here it is rarely more than a couple of minutes as the tall thunderhead blows over, looking more straight up, despite the lower signal strength. (We are ~600 mi farther south than the rest of even the southern US.)

From SF you could probably get Mex and some So Am, and Canadian birds maybe but forget Europe FTA.

In fact I'd bet little of DISH's Intl programming is being directly received at the CO integration center... but multi sat earth bounced relayed to them. Though in CO they do have the advatage of elevation and HUGE high gain dishes.

A sort of funny ancedote... was at a beach bar with a wide sky view and it was like monsoon pouring rain and someone commented that the Sat TV was still working... well the storm was coming from the east and we sat sight almost directly SW.

Just kidding sizing up how fast it came on and direction, I said signal will be gone in 5 min, and last about 2 min.

Had them check when it did happen... it was just about 5 min, and did last about 2min, and the rain had completely stopped already, but just getting into the sat sight path.
--
»haywardm.com (Hayward's Key West)
