How many it too many? I run Linux LiveCDs all the time and my ip is constantly changing.

I want to know for future reference.

Huh? what does running LiveCD's have to do w/ getting a new IP. Thats determined by the MAC addy of your modem.

Nope not really. I can change the MAC address of my network interface card (not the modem) and it'll cause a new IP to be generated.

You can do the same in Windows. Release the IP, unplug the modem for 5 minutes, change the NIC's MAC address, plug the modem back in...and boom, new IP.

Running a LiveCD essentially does the same. It detects the hardware as being new and requests updated info. I don't know the internals, but it does work.

Anyway, back to the topic of this post. The more I think about it, the more I belive it to be BS. It's not like generating new IPs is taxing their servers. It's just a number, what do they care?
