True Image V8 was my true and faithful friend for more than 3 years and never missed a beat in all that time. Alas, after upgrading my machine over Easter last which included 2 new Sata drives, it gave up the ghost (no pun intended) and started to throw up E000101F4 error
Update the SnapAPI file on your older ATI 8.0 as that will usually fix it.

I've been looking for this file myself with no luck. "SnapAPI_s_e.exe"

Re: Acronis TI 8 Personal - Free Giveaway

Thanks Doc but I'm afraid that when I uninstalled V8 to make way for V11, the contents of the former's folder were completely nuked; and I can't uninstall the latter at this time as I am working with Acronis Customer Service in an effort to resolve a problem I've encountered :-(

However, whether SnapAPI would have done the trick now would have been most interesting to find out having regard to the date of the thread you linked (late 2004, not long after V8 was released). Should I come across this file in my travels, I'll contact you.

I did come across a newer thread at Wilders (it may be too new) 2007 version and the file name changed (I'm still looking for the earlier version though), but this one is named "SnapAPI_l_s_e.zip" instead of "SnapAPI_s_e.exe" that I'm wanting (to try it out as a test on V7 and V8 ATI on older hardware).

Anyway, when you read the Wilders 2007 thread, there is a link to the newer, different named file at Acronis. I would post the file link here, but direct links are frowned upon (Forum Rules) to zipped and executable files as it doesn't give readers a chance to read up on what they are getting. The link at Wilders works very well though.

Wanted to add that I have used the Version 7 boot disk to image and restore on a Dell 8300 with a Sata drive to and from a USB eternal IDE drive.

I cannot find a way to do incremental images in the free v8 software. Is this option not included or am I just to ______ (fill in the blank) ?

Thanks,

Thanks again Doc. I have downloaded the .zip file and will give this snapapi version a try if and when the V11 bug is resolved

Keep well,

Can I use this to create an image of one drive and restore it to another? E.g. I've got a failing drive on one computer and I'll probably buy a new desktop with a new drive to replace it. Instead of reinstalling all the software, could I just restore an image, even if the drive specifications are different?

Just to clarify, Yes if the new drive is in the same computer. No if you try to restore the image to a different computer, this version will not do that.

I just ordered a new desktop to replace an older one with a failing drive. What version do I need to clone the old drive to the new drive on the new computer? Will the OEM version of XP complain or fail to boot?

I'd rather not have to reinstall all the programs etc.

Some have reported running a repair with XP to be successful after restoring or cloning to a new computer. I have not done this so I can't verify it.

The workstation version of TI will do it with a plug-in that costs an extra $29 + the cost of the workstation version.

The problem is that the HAL needs to be rebuilt to suit the new computer. MS Sysprep is one method of doing this or there are registry entries you can import before you create the image.

Just to add, you will probably have to re-activate XP if you use Sysprep and you'll need to get around the OEM issue but perhaps if you use the key from the new computer..(assuming it ships with XP). OEM adds a whole new dimension to swapping the OS.

Perhaps someone else can chime in on the activation routine in a case like yours.

Thanks. Just to be clear the old drive has XP Home (Gateway OEM). The new one comes with Vista Home (Dell OEM).

Trying to restore an image from your old machine to your new one may be an invitation for severe headaches, even though some claim that they have done this. Just bite the bullet and do a fresh install or use VISTA (gasp!)
I'm assuming that your new hardware has available XP drivers although this is not always the case with new Vista machines. In addition, using an OEM Gateway XP disk to install XP on a Dell may not even be possible or activateable (sp?). Let us know how you make out.

[EDIT] I remember one member here couldn't even use XP because of the Vista OEM BIOS. Gateway would not supply him with an older XP compatible "downgrade" (file to flash the BIOS) so XP was not even an option in his case.
BTW, best of luck with your new PC.

I agree with howie See Profile. I think with 2 OEM setups that trying to cross over is a potential huge headache.

I'd get a replacement for the failing HD you have and use the old machine for something else. A clone would work fine in that instance.

Resurrecting an old thread here.

As pointed out elsewhere this free version of TI8 would not save images to networked drives and thus was not useful to me.

I have since installed the free Seagate Disc Wizard which is a lite version of Acronis TI 10. It will save and access images on networked drives and it will explore and mount those images which was not a feature I noticed on the free version of TI8.

However the Seagate version is missing incremental and differential images and a few other useful features. Right now I'm using it only for creating occasional manual full images. Nevertheless I am seeing the following service set to start automatically and running:

Acronis Scheduler2 Service

In addition I see two running processes:

DiscWizardMonitor.exe
TimounterMonitor.exe

For occasional use I can get rid of these processes and service?

I wouldn't get rid of them + I think you will have problems backing up the network if you disable the service

If you're doing it from within Windows, you may need the service and processes. However, if you're using the boot CD, you can disable at least the scheduling service. edit: after checking, I see that I've disabled both the processes in startup as well.

I only use the CD for imaging and restore and I have no Acronis services or processes running. (TI 10)
