Are you already registered from a previous product like the free TI 7 from last year?
I just followed the links.

Anyways, I finally now seem to have got in so I could go ahead and download this app.

Got the key and installed it. Everything went perfectly. Thank you so much for this info. I've been using 7.0 since they gave that away free. Now I have a newer version of my favorite software of all time. Use it constantly.

I still haven't received anything at all. I used the email that I have already registered with them. Should I have used an altogether different email account instead?

ATTN: Anyone having trouble finding the download please read this post!!

»Re: [XP Home] Fresh Install Image

said by Doctor Olds See Profile :

You can also get this Free older version of Acronis True Image version 8.0 PE (Personal Edition). The offer still works.

Follow the directions, register, get the 1st email, Confirm the email by clicking the link in it (or paste into browser then click go), now you will get a 2nd email with your serial number. Next start to login to your account but use the Acronis True Image US site instead of the UK site.

The US Site
»https://www.acronis.com/my/index.html

On the right side you will see "Login to Your Account" and use the "Forgot your password?" feature and fill in your email address that you just registered with to get the serial. That will get you a "Password retrieval" email that you click or paste into browser to confirm and a web page with your new login password will appear. Save it and then use it to login to your account (unless you already have one prior to this offer).

Once logged in, go to "Registered Products", click on the plus mark (+) to expand the details for your product and there will be a link to download the software on a line titled "Download installation file if you lost your copy of the program. (File size: 20.78 MB)".

Enjoy!

The User Guide is here:

Nice write up Doctor Olds See Profile, that should help those who have been having trouble downloading or login into their Acronis account.

The other diffrence, is that the Seagate / Maxtor version is True Image Version 10 as well.
Ah, quite right! (Forgot about that).

And being v10, it is also Vista compatible.
Thanks for the clarification.
MarkAW See Profile, jabarnut See Profile, and AMDUSER See Profile thanks for replies/info on differences between Acronis True Image Personal 8.0 and the current Seagate DiscWizard/Maxtor MaxBlast.

Was not at my PC at time of post. When at home checked the Seagate DiscWizard and its version 10.0 (build 5,028).

I don't do incremental backups either so I'll just stick with using Seagate DiscWizard.

Got it last night with no problems. I followed Doctor Olds See Profile's instructions. I've created my first image and stored it on a 500 GB external USB hard drive. I've also created a rescue CD. I was going to try the Acronis Secure Zone, but canceled when it said it was going to take a hour to setup. Is that feature useful with an external drive?

Also I would like to create backup images for three other computers on my network. It looks like I have to install the software on each of the network computers first. Is that right? Will I be able to use the external USB drive as a backup location? I have a shared folder on it so I assume I should be able to store drive images there.

This is my first experience with this interesting software, so please be gentle if my questions are really dumb.

don't bother with secure zone. Install Acronis on all 3 comps and create separate, first time, backups to your external drive. From then on you can schedule them regularly using incremental backups. You need just one restore disk

The Secure Zone (should be called the Twilight Zone) has been the cause of more issues than any other in TI. DO NOT USE IT!
It was mainly created for those who have only a single drive to work with and this is never a good idea in the first place because if your only drive fails, your image is history as well.

I'm a big advocate of Incremental Images... Not only are they just a tiny fraction of the size of the full image (see above), they normally take just minutes (or even seconds, in some cases) to complete. I create them after I've installed new programs and/or updates and many times on a daily basis.

Maybe I'm not doing it right. I created my first image last night. Now I'm creating what I thought was an incremental image and it's taking over 30 minutes for the process to complete. I haven't installed any new programs. All I did was edit the registry and delete some files. Why is it taking so long?

Also I discovered that there's apparently a bug in TI8 which causes browsing over the network to fail on systems which have TI8 installed. To fix the problem you have to edit the registry and set the IRPStackSize to decimal 18 on each computer with network shares that has TI8 installed.
