Attempting to create image on networked drive. |
said by Cudni :don't bother with secure zone. Install Acronis on all 3 comps and create separate, first time, backups to your external drive. From then on you can schedule them regularly using incremental backups. You need just one restore disk Cudni Thank you. However when I tried to save from a networked computer to an external drive which is shared on the network, but not directly attached to the computer that I was imaging, I got this error. -- If America has an official philosophy, it surely includes the belief in individualism, competition, private property, democracy, freedom, and a deep faith in education. Now I'm creating what I thought was an incremental image and it's taking over 30 minutes for the process to complete. I haven't installed any new programs. All I did was edit the registry and delete some files. Why is it taking so long? Also I discovered that there's apparently a bug in TI8 which causes browsing over the network to fail on systems which have TI8 installed. To fix the problem you have to edit the registry and set the IRPStackSize to decimal 18 on each computer with network shares that has TI8 installed. » www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/wi···981579?s Have you defragmented your drive since your full image? Since TI does a sector by sector image, any sector that's changed since the last image will be imaged again. If you did a full defragmentation, this can cause many sectors to change and result in increments that are nearly as big as the full image and subsequently take much longer to complete. -- N.Y. 1 edit | said by howie :Then, somehow you created another full image, which explains why it's larger than the first full image... Correct as usual. I did it again and it only took 15 minutes. The original is 41 GB. The increment is 450 MB.
Unfortunately, with this OEM personal version you have to save your images locally and then move them to network drives afterwards. Also unfortunately the images cannot be restored from the network with this version. You apparently have to move them back to the local drive first, if you can. -- If America has an official philosophy, it surely includes the belief in individualism, competition, private property, democracy, freedom, and a deep faith in education. ...Not so good news from jmorlan I guess...
IIRC, version 7 would actually let you backup to a network share. Not sure about a network drive, but I'm pretty sure it would allow backups to a network location.
That would really be sad if this version disabled such a feature. Guess I'd rather use 7 in such cases.
Whatever the case, good to know this version is available |

| No, not in any mode. You'd need to acquire True Image 10, 11 or the free DiscWizard or MaxBlast from Seagate (If you have a Seagate or Maxtor drive installed). -- N.Y. Giants - Super Bowl XLII Champions |

I like version 8. Works great.
Not sure about this free version, should be the same.
I've used version 8.0.0.937's boot CD on several Vista machines and back upped and restored with no problems at all. So it does work with Vista. I've never installed it on Vista though, so maybe that will not work. |

A new install of Vista Ultimate 64 It seems some have had success using the version 8 boot CD media to image Vista. As for myself, when Acronis states that the only Vista compatible versions are 10 and 11, I listen and wouldn't chance losing data or an entire image with a 4 year old version. I'd highly recommend obtaining version 11 or at least the free Seagate version if you have a Seagate (or Maxtor) drive. It's your decision, though... -- N.Y. Giants - Super Bowl XLII Champions |

| reply to gwwalks Ok, got it downloaded, installed, boot CD made, etc. Now for my gripe.
I LOVE this program, have used it religiously, but one aspect in 7 I used quite a bit was Disk Clone - this is GONE in this version. Don't like that, even the boot CD doesn't have it on there. It's a really handy tool for imaging drives that are close to failing (but still accessible). I've made many a person happy with that feature, and may need to roll back again to 7 for that reason alone. |

@ameritech.net | I recently purchased TI 11 ($39.99). I haven't installed it yet, but it does include cloning feature. After I got the free TI 8 offer, according to what I read, it didn't support support SATA drives until a later version...just an FYI for folks |

| reply to gwwalks True Image V8 was my true and faithful friend for more than 3 years and never missed a beat in all that time. Alas, after upgrading my machine over Easter last which included 2 new Sata drives, it gave up the ghost (no pun intended) and started to throw up E000101F4 error notices whenever I went to use it . The problem was, I found out, it did not have the latest drivers which would enable it to see the Sata drives.
ATI8 did everything I wanted of an imaging program and despite Acronis introducing upgraded versions, I did not change. Now I have been forced to install their buggy V11 -- oh well, I guess it would have happened eventually when I decide to upgrade? to Vista -- Tact is the art of making a point without making an enemy - Anonymous |
